Leeds United have capped off an impressive start to the season by claiming a double victory for the Sky Bet EFL Championship Manager and Player of the Month awards for August.
Marcelo Bielsa has been named as the Championship Manager of the Month, after guiding Leeds to the top of the league, thanks to four wins and two draws from their opening six games. The Argentine has overseen impressive performances to date, including victories over promotion rivals Stoke and Derby, plus Norwich and Rotherham.
Bielsa's forward Kemar Roofe has picked up the Player of the Month title after four league goals in August. The former Oxford man has struck twice in a 4-1 win at Derby, plus once in the draw at Swansea and against Rotherham.
George Burley chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel and said: “Marcelo arrived in England this summer with a tremendous reputation, which is clearly warranted based on how Leeds have performed in the opening six games.
“Entertaining but organised, the team has taken to his methods quickly and their early form suggests they will be strong contenders for promotion come May.”
The Elland Road club are currently 4/1 joint favourites with Sky Bet for the title, having been as big as 12/1 at the start of the month.
For Roofe, he knows both he and his teammates have a long way still to go, having experienced a fatal drop off in form to the latter stages of this season. However he feels things are different this time around, especially for him.
“I feel like I can express myself a bit more. I am playing in a position where I can show what I can actually do and also the team plays to my strengths as well and also to everyone else’s strengths. We are not doing something we’re not capable of doing,” said Roofe.
