Former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is the current favourite to replace Darren Moore at West Brom.
Moore, 44, was relieved of his duties on Saturday after the Baggies' home draw with Sky Bet Championship strugglers Ipswich.
The move came as a surprise to many, with Albion fourth in the table, but the board made the decision after a run of just four wins in their last 12 league games.
Chief executive Mark Jenkins told the club's official website of an 'enormously difficult decision' to part with their former player, youth coach and fans' favourite.
It leaves West Brom searching for a new boss with just 10 games of the Championship campaign remaining.
With a nine-point gap to second-placed Leeds, automatic promotion prospects appear slim but the play-offs are very much on, and Albion are 5/2 for promotion with Sky Bet.

Jokanovic is priced at 5/2 to become the Baggies' next permanent manager. The Serb, 50, is currently without a job after leaving Fulham in November.
His track record of promotions with Watford and Fulham help make him a lead candidate with the West Brom board, who were set to hold a conference call with the club's owners in China on Sunday to discuss potential candidates.
According to Sky Sports, the club's hierarchy are keen to get a new manager in place before Wednesday's home game with Swansea.
David Wagner is also in the betting but Sky Sports understand that the former Huddersfield boss is not interested in taking over at The Hawthorns.
