Aberdeen starlet Lewis Ferguson scored a wonder goal in their Europa League second qualifying round clash with Burnley but it proved in vain as the Clarets progressed 4-2 on aggregate.
Burnley duo Jack Cork and Ashley Barnes ended the Scottish Premiership side's resistance in extra-time as Turf Moor's first taste of European football in 51 years ended in celebration.
After 90 minutes the sides had gamely replicated last week's 1-1 draw at Pittodrie but the additional half-hour allowed Sean Dyche's Premier League side to flex their muscles and they eventually sealed a trip to Istanbul Basaksehir next week.
A simpler evening appeared to be in the offing when Chris Wood lashed home a sixth-minute opener but the Dons were worthy opponents - equalising through a sublime bicycle kick from 18-year-old Lewis Ferguson and staying in the game thanks to goalkeeper Joe Lewis.
This is special. This is unbelievable!

Wood's goal should have settled Burnley but, despite some tidy touches and plenty of possession, they did not flourish.
Things shifted dramatically in the 27th minute following an uncleared corner. The impressive Gary Mackay-Steven beat Matt Lowton and pinged a cross to the far post where Wood produced the worst kind of defensive header, floating the ball back across his own goal.
Ferguson sensed his moment and took it brilliantly, swivelling and contorting his body in search of a dream goal. Incredibly the teenager - son of Derek and nephew to Barry - found one.
There were no more goals in normal time but the Clarets went back in front at Turf Moor through Cork's close-range header, before Barnes' penalty sealed progression and a clash with Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir in the next round.
Goal Burnley!

Nikola Katic helped see off Croatian compatriots Osijek as his second-half goal was enough to see Rangers through with a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.
The centre-half headed home from close range eight minutes into the second half as the Light Blues doubled the lead given to them by Alfredo Morelos' first-leg strike.
Borna Barisic became the first player to net against Steven Gerrard's Gers with his last-minute strike, but the hosts clung on for a 2-1 aggregate win to set up a meeting with Slovenians Maribor.
Hibernian won 4-3 on aggregate against Asteras Tripolis following a nail-biting 1-1 draw in Greece.
John McGinn put Hibs ahead on the night but, after the hosts had forward Michalis Manias sent off three minutes into the second half, the visitors were forced to hang on following Kosmas Tsilianidis' 56th-minute equaliser.
The Scottish side will face Norwegian club Molde in the next round.
Dean Ebbe's 82nd-minute goal sent Welsh outfit The New Saints through after they drew 1-1 against the Lincoln Red Imps to secure a 3-2 aggregate success.
Juan Manuel Montesinos Romero levelled the tie for the hosts in Gibraltar late in the first half before Ebbe, who also scored in the first leg, pounced late on to set up a meeting with Danish side Midtjylland.
League of Ireland side Dundalk were eliminated after a 4-0 loss to AEK Larnaca in Cyprus saw them beaten by the same aggregate scoreline.
Paul Heatley's equaliser earned Northern Irish side Crusaders a 1-1 draw against Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana but they were knocked out 6-2 on aggregate.
Elsewhere, five-time winners Sevilla progressed following a 7-1 aggregate win over Hungarian side Ujpest, while Bundesliga club RB Leipzig overcame Swedish side Hacken 5-1 over two legs.
Bordeaux, Atalanta, Besiktas and Vitesse Arnhem were among the other clubs to progress.
