Sami Khedira transfer news and next club odds: Everton favourites to sign midfielder

Premier League side Everton are the 4/6 favourites to sign Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira in the January transfer window.

The 33-year-old is out of contract in June but reports say that Juventus will allow him to leave early in order to free up space on the wage bill. He was not listed as part of the Italian side's squad this season.

Khedira and Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti were together at Real Madrid, and with injuries playing their part for the Toffees, the midfielder has been backed into 4/6 with Sky Bet to make the switch to Goodison Park.

Everton have been without the influential Allan since a 2-0 win at Leicester in December, although he is expected to return soon. Allan joined Everton in the summer alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez. That has led to Ancelotti stating that he isn't looking at a move for Khedira at this moment in time.

However, with repeated injuries to Allan and Rodriguez, and Jean-Philippe Gbamin remaining on the long-term injury list, Ancelotti may be tempted to add numbers to a midfield that hasn't been at full strength in recent weeks.

Ancelotti recently discussed not having a full squad to pick from after their defeat to West Ham, and the availability of players over the next week may hint at their transfer plans for the month.

He said: "The momentum was good, we had difficult games and a good run but it has stopped. It will be important to keep our belief and confidence high.

"We have players with quality who are not in their best condition, like James (Rodriguez) and Richarlison, who was coming back from a concussion. Dominic (Calvert-Lewin) had a problem during the game and was not 100 per cent.

"We have the possibility in the next eight days to have players in better condition, players who were not able to train in the past weeks, and look forward with belief."

Khedira has enjoyed a career full of major honours. He won the Bundesliga with Stuttgart, Serie A with Juventus and LaLiga during his spell at Real. In Madrid, he would also lift the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

He was also a part of the Germany squad which won the 2014 World Cup, starting in the famous 7-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-final. Khedira made 77 appearances for Die Mannschaft, scoring seven goals across all competitions.
