Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals to inspire Portugal to a 5-1 victory over Lithuania in Euro 2020 qualifying Group B.

After the Juventus forward had opened the scoring with an early penalty, Vytautas Andriuskevicius stunned the visitors when he equalised after 28 minutes.

Normal service was resumed, though, just past the hour mark when Ronaldo's effort found the net after a terrible mistake by Lithuania goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus.

Ronaldo grabbed two more - which saw him overtake Robbie Keane's record European qualifying mark of 23 goals - and William Carvalho completed the rout late on as Portugal moved to eight points after four games.

It was an eighth international hat-trick for 34-year-old Ronaldo, who also scored four against Andorra in 2016, and he now has 54 overall for both club and country.

Remarkably they have come in 12 different countries: Lithuania, Portugal, Italy, Russia, Spain, Japan, Armenia, Sweden, Turkey, Northern Ireland, Netherlands and England.

His 93 goals for Portugal in 160 games have come against 40 different countries and he's now 16 goals short of the all-time international record set by Ali Daei, who scored 109 goals in 149 caps for Iran.

In total, Ronaldo has scored a total of 695 goals for club and country throughout his career while also registering 214 assists.

The result keeps Portugal in an automatic qualifying place, five points behind Group B leaders Ukraine.

Serbia are a point behind after a 3-1 victory in Luxembourg, where Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice.

England recovered from a nightmare start against Kosovo to run out 5-3 winners in Southampton and maintain their perfect start to qualifying Group A.

Kosovo - looking to keep alive their own hopes of finishing in the top two - had taken a shock lead after just 34 seconds as Lazio midfielder Valon Berisha fired them in front when Michael Keane had given the ball away.

England, though, soon regrouped and equalised on seven minutes through Raheem Sterling, after Keane's header from a corner.

Captain Harry Kane - who scored a hat-trick in Saturday's 4-0 thrashing of Bulgaria at Wembley - made it 2-1 in the 18th minute following a determined run by Manchester City forward Sterling.

Kosovo defender Mergim Vojvoda put the ball in his own net after 38 minutes, before Jadon Sancho scored twice shortly ahead of half-time with Sterling again involved.

Berisha pulled a goal back four minutes into the second half, with Fenerbahce forward Vedat Muriqi soon making it 5-3 when he converted a penalty.

Kane then saw his spot-kick saved, but despite England pressing during the closing stages, Gareth Southgate's side could not find a sixth as they completed a fourth successive qualifying win.

The Czech Republic bounced back from defeat by Kosovo to move up into second place in the group after a 3-0 win in Montenegro.

Midfielder Tomas Soucek headed the Czechs in front on 54 minutes with winger Lukas Masopus soon adding a second. Vladimir Darida scored a third from the penalty sport in stoppage time.

Turkey went above world champions France to the top of Group H with a 4-0 win in Moldova, with Everton forward Cenk Tosun scoring twice.

Tosun gave Turkey the lead at the Stadionul Zimbru after 37 minutes before Deniz Turuc crashed in a long-range free-kick.

The Toffees frontman added a late third, with Yusuf Yazici's fine individual effort wrapping things up as the Turks moved ahead of France on head-to-head record.

France saw off Andorra 3-0 in Paris.

Kingsley Coman put Les Bleus in front after 18 minutes, before Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann - who blasted a penalty against the crossbar in the last game - had another spot-kick saved.

Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet headed in from Griezmann's free-kick after 52 minutes with substitute Wissam Ben Yedder tapping home a third in stoppage time.

Albania, meanwhile, shocked Iceland to run out 4-2 winners in Elbasani, where Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson had earlier made it 1-1.
