Heinrich Klaasen dazzled as South Africa defeated India in Centurion to keep alive their hopes of winning the Twenty20 series.
After a thumping 5-1 victory in the one-day series, India continued their dominance in limited-overs by winning the opening T20 match on Sunday.
However, South Africa hit back to take the second contest by six wickets on Wednesday, as Klaasen's rapid-fire innings of 69 helped to set up a decider in Cape Town on Saturday.
With rain having washed out the preceding scheduled women's match, South Africa captain JP Duminy opted to field and India amassed 188 for four from their 20 overs.
Manish Pandey made 79 not out and MS Dhoni scored 52 not out, sharing in an unbeaten century partnership.
Drizzle during the South Africa innings made conditions difficult but it was the hosts ultimately who handled them better.
After losing two early wickets, the partnership between Duminy and wicketkeeper-batsman Klaasen, promoted up the order, proved the crucial one. Duminy anchored the innings with 64 from 40 balls while Klaasen hit out at the other end, clattering his runs from just 30 deliveries before he was caught behind.
South Africa reached their target with eight balls to spare, Duminy hitting two successive sixes to clinch the win.
