Kent appoint Jason Gillespie as assistant coach

Dual County Championship-winning coach Jason Gillespie is to return to English domestic cricket with Kent for the early months of the new season.

The former Australia seamer, who oversaw Yorkshire's back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015, will join the staff at Canterbury in time for the start of the 2017 campaign on April 7.

Gillespie, who will assist head coach Matt Walker, said: "I am really looking forward to joining Kent.

"Obviously I moved back to Adelaide for family reasons last year, but the opportunity to assist Kent on a short-term basis was one that I couldn't resist and works well with my current situation.

"I look forward to helping Matt Walker and [captain] Sam Northeast over the next couple of months until I hand over the reins to Allan Donald."

The 41-year-old will cover for former South Africa fast bowler Donald, who was appointed assistant coach two months ago but is still awaiting a visa to work in the UK.

Walker said: "To get Jason on board is a brilliant coup for us.

"To have an experienced ex-head coach come into our ranks is great for me and the lads.

"His bowling expertise are like-for-like with Allan."
