Fast bowler Tom Curran will not play in the upcoming Big Bash League for reigning champions Sydney Sixers after withdrawing to spend time with his family.
He is the second England player to pull out in a matter of days, following Brisbane Heat batsman Tom Banton's decision to miss the BBL season because of bio-secure bubble fatigue.
The duo are currently in South Africa with the England team, a tour which has seen two one-day internationals cancelled because of Covid-19 scares despite players staying in a bubble in an attempt to safeguard the threat of coronavirus.
Any English player taking part in the BBL must undertake a mandatory two-week hotel quarantine on arrival in Australia.
"I feel very lucky to play for the Sixers, I have loved my time with you all over the last two seasons and I can promise you, this decision was not taken lightly," said Curran.
"I will hopefully be back for many years to come, recharged and ready to go again, but for now I just need some time, normality, see family and be home."
