Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez won a world title in his fourth weight division when knocking out Sergey Kovalev in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
A straight right hand in the 11th round sent Kovalev to the canvas and earned Alvarez the WBO light-heavyweight title.
It had been a cagey encounter before the late fireworks, Canelo winning on two out of three scorecards (the other was a draw) at the time of the stoppage.
It had seemed he might have had to rely on those scorecards because, until the vicious conclusion, neither fighter had encountered any serious difficulty during the preceding rounds.
However the right hand in the 11th changed all that in dramatic fashion.
