Quickly developed into a smart performer last season, winning 3 of 4 starts in handicaps, including a game success in the Balmoral at Ascot. Well held in 1¼m Curragh Group 3 on reappearance in June but no surprise if he were to resume his progression now. Tongue tied first time.

Won handicap at Meydan in March. Has reached the frame in a few listed races since but well held in Glorious Goodwood Group 3 latest. More chance back in a handicap but others are still preferred.

Well-bred colt who won novice at Southwell last month and found another chunk of improvement to score easily on handicap debut at Kempton (1½m again) 17 days ago. Hit with a 14 lb rise but there's almost certainly more to come.

Shaped well when third in Lincoln at Doncaster (1m, good) and Victoria Cup at Ascot (7f, good to firm) this spring. Has ruined his chance with slow starts over 1m here and at Goodwood last twice. The longer trip gives him more time to recover if he misses the break again but he comes with risks.

Took this race in 2024 and added another C&D win last summer. Respectable fourths at Redcar and over C&D this summer but never threatened over 1½m at Ascot latest. Cheekpieces on first time. Others arrive with more pressing claims.

Useful sort who posted his best effort in a handicap when close second of 14 over C&D (good to soft) in June. This low-mileage 4-y-o merits plenty of respect with Oisin Murphy taking the reins for the first time.

Low-mileage 4-y-o who improved to win on Nottingham reappearance in May. Backed it up with a good third at Goodwood in May and had an excuse (not clear run) at York since.

Kingman colt who chased home Maltese Cross in a Newbury novice on reappearance before runner-up in a Newmarket (1¼m, good) in May. Never a threat with cheekpieces added in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot but returns from 10 weeks off as an unexposed 3-y-o from a top yard. A visor goes on now.

Useful form, winning 2 novices but failed to make a significant impact at Chester and Goodwood switched to handicap company last month. Still early days but he'll need an improved effort to go close.

Verdict

The handicapper hasn't missed KOKBASTAU after Kempton but it still might not stop this fast-improving 3-y-o. Fellow 3-y-o My Love Is King failed to figure in a Group 3 at Royal Ascot but retains potential back from a break and is second choice ahead of Alcarath and last year's Balmoral winner Crown of Oaks, who has been given a bit of time to get over a below-par reappearance in Ireland.
