Dual fast ground winner, one over a similar trip at Epsom last season. Had a spell hurdling in the winter and returned to this code with a good effort at Newbury last month. Flopped at Newmarket last time, however, so needs to bounce back.
Made all to score over 1m2f at Chelmsford (AW) in March, when 5lb lower. Yet to win on turf, where he has been well held a couple of times from this or similar marks. Plenty to prove in that respect.
Scored on debut at Newcastle in 2017, when with Hugo Palmer, but 16 starts later under both codes and he is still looking for a second success. Went close at Yarmouth (1m, good to firm) last time, but up 3lb here and still a bit to prove over 1m2f.
Made the frame in three successive AW starts over 7f/1m last autumn, including from 7lb higher on his handicap debut. Has been taking backward steps since then. Now on a handy mark as a result, and no surprise to see him go much closer.
AW winner (1m) on debut a couple of years ago, but has been unable to better the form of his second start shortly after that. Seems to go best at Kempton and there has been little to recommend him from recent efforts.
Looked like he would be capable of winning races when going close at Nottingham (1m½f, heavy) in 2017, but has been unable to better that since. 200-1 on his recent stable debut, but not disgraced at Kempton. More needed from same mark.
Triple AW winner over 1m4f/1m5½f, but held in all four turf starts to date and despite his most recent one being a step in the right direction, he'll need to improve on it from just 2lb lower.
1m1f (good) winner when trained in France last year, where he also made the frame on heavy ground in a handicap. Well held on both British starts for this trainer so far, so plenty for him to prove now.
Hurdle and triple Flat turf winner (1m-1m2f) all on slow/testing ground. Well held on her last few starts in this code and it isn't easy to make a case for her on that evidence.
Forecasts
Harlow (11/8), Pentimento (5/2), Isle of Wolves (11/2), Croeso Cymraeg (10/1), One Cool Daddy (16/1), Ididitforyoooo (20/1), Greek Kodiac (22/1), Yagood (28/1), Born To Please (33/1)
This looks less competitive than the other division and Harlow is probably the most obvious choice given a good run last time. However, he still has it to prove over this far and the suggestion is to take a chance on a return to form by PENTIMENTO, who has slipped to a handy mark. Isle Of Wolves could be a danger if shrugging of his latest run.
- Pentimento
- Harlow
- Isle of Wolves
