Won a 0-65 handicap over 1m2f here last year causing a 33-1 surprise (went close to following up at Wolverhampton). Easy to back on his return to action over 1m6f last week (shaped as if run was needed); ought to be involved, stable rather quiet.

Struggled to find the same form as he demonstrated when winning over 1m4f at Kempton last August off a 4lb lower mark. Not seen to best effect in a first-time tongue-tie on a recent return at Wolverhampton, this stamina test will suit him better.

Modest maiden whose close second to progressive stayer Clap Your Hands in a C&D maiden reads well. Not quite lived up to that level of firm returned to handicaps; has an easing mark to assist, may get involved if ready after an absence.

Hasn't really lived up to the expectations that a move to this stable brought having been tried in various headgear combinations and trips on the AW. Without any headgear on his return over 1m6f here; visor back on today but still comes with risks.

Showed some very modest form for Eve Johnson Houghton in minor events/handicaps; well beaten on all her starts (AW/hurdles) for her current stable. Cheekpieces go back on but others mount far more persuasive cases.

Best effort for a while when third at Kempton in January over 2m to River Dart but still devoid of a win on her CV, now 0-16. Headgear worn last five starts is retained on her return to action although she might need this, no more than place claims.

Still a maiden after eight starts most of which have been no more than modest form. Showed some promise over 1m4f at Kempton in January (stronger gallop would have suited) but failed to build on that when last seen; cheekpieces now applied.

With a good yard but has hardly beaten a rival with the losing distances getting larger in a couple of handicaps in May/June last year. Steps up again in trip off a lowly mark, worth a market check despite the lack of any solid form.

Not seen in the winners' enclosure since 2015 and with an ever lengthening losing sequence confidence would be low about his prospects. Little to like about his two starts after wind surgery earlier this year; easily passed over.

Forecasts

Mr Fox (11/4), Lauberhorn Rocket (4/1), Sinndarella (4/1), Chinese Alphabet (13/2), Hidden Pearl (13/2), Snow Leopard (14/1), Golden Grenade (18/1), Sellingallthetime (25/1), Ideal Grace (28/1)

Verdict

A relatively competitive second division of the staying handicap and in terms of depth a far stronger contest than the previous division. Course winner Mr Fox may well have needed his run last week and enters the argument although his stable could be in better form. Golden Grenade for all his lack of form warrants a check in the market given his connections. The maiden mares Hidden Pearl and Sinndarella should appreciate this test and both are of interest if ready to roll. LAUBERHORN ROCKET wasn’t seen to best effect last time at Wolverhampton and this test will suit him better with the first-time tongue-tie retained; he’s competitive off this mark.

  2. Mr Fox
  3. Hidden Pearl
