Yard yet to really get going with their 2yo's; 60,000gns yearling, third foal, half-brother to 1m winner Purgatory. Dam, winner up to 7f (2yo 6f winner), half-sister to 1m-1m6 winner Swivel. Faces some well forward stables in this.

Stable had the second 2yo winner of the season (had juveniles run well since also). New Approach colt who has plenty of stamina on the distaff side of the pedigree, dam 1m2f winner related to a couple of smart types over same trip; well worth noting.
Trainer always to be respected at this venue and off the mark in the 2yo sphere (sole winner since resumption of racing). Half-brother to several winners including smart 1m2f winner Circumvent, dam unraced, looks to have a future.
Yard leading the way with 2yo's (majority going close and knowing their job); run two in this. Half-brother to 1m1f winners Dubawi Flame and Majestic Thunder (both by Dubawi), dam 1m2f winner (stayed further); market a good guide to his prospects.

Yard have been knocking at the door with juveniles (stable in good form overall). 170,000gns yearling, fourth foal, half-brother to smart 5f 2yo winner Soldier's Call (won Group 2 Flying Childers), dam 5f 2yo winner, interesting to see him start off at 7f.
Yard also run Golden Flame having made an excellent start with their 2yo's. 58,000gns yearling, 8th foal, brother to useful winner at up to 1m Us Law, dam lightly-raced in France, hard to ignore given his stable, likely to run a sound race.

Third foal, dam 6f AW winner, half-sister to a couple of smart types in 7f winners Flight Of Fancy and Golden Stream. Yard have already one turf 2yo winner, this could be quite a tough test though with some notable 2yo stables in opposition.

Along with the Johnston yard this team are always to be feared in 2yo events (have resumed in good form generally). Third foal, dam 1m4f winner, sister to smart 1m4f Group 3 winner Sun Rose; sure to be one of the leading prospects.

Verdict

As with most juvenile fields at the moment there is no form to go on and the market will be the focus to provide some clues. Given the way the Johnston team have started the season his pair GOLDEN FLAME and March Law have to be of interest and it’s the Golden Horn colt ridden by the champion jockey who gets speculative vote over his stablemate. Surprise Exhibit has plenty going for him although where the Johnston and Watson stables have clashed its been generally the former who have prevailed. King Leo is quite speedily-bred for this test but this 170,000 guineas purchase by Middle Park winner The Last Lion can’t be ignored with Desert History and Devious Company adding depth to the contest.
  1. Golden Flame
  2. March Law
  3. Surprise Exhibit
