Lope De Vega colt, cost 60,000 gns as yearling. Half-brother to a Group 1 winning juvenile over this trip and a 1m winner. Showed some promise in Irish sprints last year for Willie McCreery, new start here.
Claimed out of the Karl Burke yard after finishing a respectable third to Captain Lars in a 5f seller at Newcastle in February; below best both runs for new handler but prospects from lower rating back on turf.
Has shown promise in three AW starts over 6f/7f this year, first-time visor added now tackling a handicap / running on turf for the first time; may improve.
Half-sister to the 6f winner Rickyroadboy; very mixed messages based on form shown so far, coming here off the back of a disappointing effort at Musselburgh early this month. Bit to prove.
Nine-race maiden, ended last season with improved showing in 5f Musselburgh handicap on good ground. Rated a pound lower now on return, upped in distance.
Struggled at Musselburgh (7f, good) on nursery debut in August and quickly been dropped 3lb. Down in trip here but needs plenty more to be involved on seasonal bow.
Power gelding with four unconvincing runs on the AW behind him, makes handicap/turf bow with a sizeable chunk of improvement required.
Little to report in maiden/novice company last season or in either start so far in Redcar handicaps either side of a layoff. First-time blinkers must bring about some more.
Ripon third on debut was quite promising but remains comfortably her best effort to date in five starts. Returns from a layoff, eased 5lb in the ratings.
Filly has twice gone close in 5f AW handicaps at Newcastle from three runs for this yard. Runs from same mark here, tackling 6f for the first time; should go well.
Six-race maiden, no threat recently in Leicester seller (6f, good; 80-1) on first start for this trainer, dropping back from the 2f pole. Plenty more needed.
Only one reasonable effort to his name having been exclusively raced on turf as a juvenile at sprint trips. No improvement on Southwell Fibresand recently and poor previous try this course.
12-race maiden placed twice at two including off a 15lb higher mark C&D (good-to-soft) in July. Disappointing since however and others make more appeal on seasonal bow.
Unplaced in six starts last year, going off big prices each time and including wide-margin defeat over 5f here in August (good to soft). Will have to have strengthened up notably over the winter.
Dandy Man filly has shown very little ability in five-race career to this point, including two starts in handicaps over 6f/7f on Newcastle's all-weather. Others preferred back on turf.
Lethal Force filly made promising start last year at Leicester (6f, good to soft; 33-1) but has gone backwards since. Gets first-time blinkers added on return to action and mark is sinking fast.
Ended two-year-old campaign with a second in a 6f handicap at Newcastle in early November, may have needed the run on reappearance at Redcar (6f, good to firm; 16-1) a week ago. Can do better.
Soundly beaten on all five starts, and looks of little account at this stage. Back from a 192-day break and can only be watched unless the market suggests different.
Has routinely finished down the field in her five-race career, though she did shape marginally better on final two-year-old start at Southwell in November. Facing tough task on return.
Forecasts
Montalvan (11/2), Muhallab (6/1), Seanjohnsilver (13/2), You Little Beauty (7/1), The Grey Zebedee (10/1), Willow Brook (10/1), Aghast (11/1), Kimberley Girl (14/1), Ey Up Its Mick (16/1), The Big House (16/1), Lethal Laura (20/1), Harperelle (25/1), Kyroc (25/1), Our Secret (33/1), Tigerinmytank (33/1), Josiebond (40/1), Slieve Donard (50/1), Pritty Livvy (80/1), Justice Shallow (100/1)
Montalvan rates an interesting contender starting out for new connections and the ex-Irish runner is certainly worth monitoring at this level. The Grey Zebedee ended last season with an improved effort and goes on the shortlist while Willow Brook merits consideration based on his recent all-weather form. A chance is taken on MUHALLAB as he has shaped with purpose in his three runs and now makes his turf/handicap debut from a workable mark sporting new headgear.
- Muhallab
- Montalvan
- The Grey Zebedee
