One of only two in this not to have experienced this surface before he comes here under a 5lb penalty for his debut stable win at Pontefract (1m, good). Beat dual C&D winner Mr Carbonator; may have more to offer but has to prove himself on Fibresand

9/1
Dual course winner; both wins at 6f; well below any previous form when last seen here off the back of a four month break. Usually in some form of headgear of late (last win came without); has won over this trip, last run leaves doubts.

Capable on this surface (two-time course winner); record here of late has proved rather inconclusive though with her best run for some time followed by a dismal one last time. Ought to be able to bounce back but hard to be sure given that last run.

Fibresand virgin (two in the field); switches here after six consecutive Chelmsford starts (last two wins have come there). Appears to be going through a good spell at the moment (without winning); 7lb below last winning mark if he handles surface.

10/1
Dual C&D winner with both victories coming when he's been positively ridden. That's not been the case in his last three starts here (all in higher grade than his two wins) meaning he's not been seen to best effect; needs a return to forcing tactics.

Majestic Moonp14
Age: 9|  Weight: 9-2| J: Shelley Birkett| T: Miss J Feilden| OR:  70| CD
9/1
Regular visitor to the Fibresand (generally runs well) but does have only one win to his name here which came over this trip. 7lb below his last winning mark and 3lb better off at the weights with Muqarred who beat him last time; solid performer.

Mr Carbonator8
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: Jamie Gormley(3)| T: P A Kirby| OR:  66| CD
8/1
Dual C&D winner who now gets his Pontefract conqueror (Casement) back on his own "turf" (0-14 on grass; 3-17 on AW). Off his higher AW mark here but handles this surface well so may well be able to reverse that form; leading chance on Fibresand form.

9/1
Bounced right back to form when taking advantage of a rapidly falling mark last time (beat Majestic Moon); scoring his fourth C&D win. Can be a little inconsistent and this is a stronger contest; still looks well weighted off just a 3lb higher mark.

15/2
All three of her career-wins have come here (one over C&D); usually ridden in all prominent manner for those successes. May just find this level a little too taxing (all wins in Class 6); comes here off a poor run on turf at Windsor; others favoured.

Laqab7
Age: 6|  Weight: 8-10| J: P Mathers| T: D Shaw| OR:  64
14/1
Three previous runs on this surface without success and hasn't looked like a winner waiting to happen since joining this yard at the end of last year. Didn't run badly over 1m at Kempton last time; questions remain on this surface though.

Thunder Buddyp18
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-9| J: Rhona Pindar(7)| T: K R Burke| OR:  63| BF| C
15/2
Built up a good record here (31413); both wins coming over 7f. Suspicion remains though that this trip/grade stretches him and he's not as strong as some/most of these at 1m. 4lb above last winning mark would appeal more at 7f.

Forecasts

Casement (3/1), Bond Angel (15/2), Thunder Buddy (15/2), Mr Carbonator (8/1), Glory Awaits (8/1), Majestic Moon (9/1), Muqarred (9/1), Mujassam (9/1), Tagur (10/1), Laqab (14/1), Mama Africa (20/1)

Verdict

Plenty of course/C&D form to work with here with the majority of these having won on Fibresand although the most interesting battle looks to be between dual C&D winner MR CARBONATOR and the Fibresand newcomer Casement. These two clashed at Pontefract last time with the latter successful but back on his favoured surface the former ought to prevail this time. Muqarred goes in search of a fifth C&D victory and has to be respected as despite a rise in the weights for his last win he’s still on a nice mark based on his old form. Tagur another dual C&D winner needs a return to forcing tactics while most of the other Fibresand types in this need to find some improvement to score in this grade.
  1. Mr Carbonator
  2. Muqarred
  3. Casement
