Was progressive on turf on the Flat in 2015, rising over 30lb in a four-month spell. Not seen in this sphere since October of that year and resumes 6lb lower. Not a bad effort over a similar trip at Wolverhampton last time and is interesting.
Sole win on turf was at Nottingham (1m6f, good to firm) this time last year when 5lb lower. Twice went close over a similar trip to this from 1lb lower later in the year. Reappearance run should help and not ruled out in new headgear combination.
Yet to win on turf but acts on it, although all three wins have been on All Weather surfaces at similar trips to this. Has made all to win, so could be suited to this track and not ruled out if headgear can eek out a bit more improvement.
Made some progress as a stayer in 2016, winning over this trip at Catterick (good) from today's mark. Off since September of that year and therefore entitled to need this run. Claims if retaining that ability, so market check advised.
Record here reads 7-1-2-2-1-4-1-7, one of those wins being over this trip. 2lb higher than when scoring here over 1m6f in August. Conditions fine for him but, although he has once won when fresh, he tends to need a few runs to reach fever pitch.
Had run some good races here in defeat before finally winning one over C&D in June from a 1lb lower mark (Stormin Tom 1L behind, now 1lb worse off with him). Conditions fine and enters calculations after a recent pipe-opener over 1m4f.
Won over hurdles before adding five more successes on the Flat from 1m5f-2m. Acts on good ground and is 4lb higher than her most recent win at Ayr in October. Gets on well with this pilot but does need to improve on her reappearance run.
Won juvenile hurdle at Musselburgh (1m7½f, good to soft) in January and has looked better in that discipline than on the Flat. Beaten 4L on return to this code at Pontefract (2m5½f) last time. 1lb drop will help. Each-way claims.
Looks to be going the right way based on her latest effort when a neck second at Salisbury (1m4f, heavy) last month. Dam was placed over 1m6f, so this longer trip may be in range. 1lb drop won't harm but has stamina to prove.
Former Joseph O'Brien inmate who returned to form with a staying-on win at Thirsk (1m4f, good to soft) last time. Was well beaten on only previous try over this far in Ireland, but stays 2m4f over hurdles, so not ruled out under a penalty.
Forecasts
Uptown Funk (7/2), I'm A Believer (7/2), Zig Zag (13/2), On Fire (7/1), Question Of Faith (7/1), Wishing Well (10/1), Stormin Tom (11/1), Mambo Dancer (12/1), Dew Pond (20/1), Strait Of Magellan (20/1)
A tricky puzzle to solve with plenty of them having some sort of claim and the suggestion is WISHING WELL, who represents a stable in decent form, goes well here and should be better for the return to this trip. Strait Of Magellan is very interesting now back on turf on the Flat, with Mambo Dancer cited as a danger to the selection. Uptown Funk, Zig Zag, On Fire and the reappearing Dew Pond are others worth keeping an eye on for any market confidence.
- Wishing Well
- Mambo Dancer
