He eventually had to win off a lowly mark based on his old form and eventually did so when winning on his penultimate start at Chepstow in a 0-55 handicap. Upped in grade he did well to finish third here last time out over C&D (missed the break) but does face a couple of improvers here in a race that could be useful for the grade.
Yet to win for this yard and clearly wasn't right last time out in a run that is best ignored for now. His previous form would entitle him to respect here especially his penultimate start when he tried to make all over 7f and was narrowly beaten off a 3lb lower mark.
A three-time C&D winner he's not the easiest to win with though and his latest win here came out of the blue in June off this mark. He's proved more miss than hit since but around here it's never a surprise to see him bounce back to form.
It appears to have taken connections a while to figure him out in terms of trip but the 7f last time out in a 0-70 appeared to suit him well and that form was given a boost last week with the win of the 5th. Raised just 2lb for that run he looks sure to take an active role here eased in grade over a trip that appears to suit.
This will be just his third run for this yard and he's shown promise on both his first two with the last outing being the most eye-catching. With cheekpieces still (also worn for debut) he again shaped well (strong in betting) but was never seen to best effect getting shuffled back on a pace favouring track and hampered on more than one occasion. Off a 3lb higher mark here but clearly has ability and he won't be long in winning something in this grade.
Enigmatic and quirky character who often promises more than he delivers and is hard to predict. Won an apprentice race over C&D in July off a basement mark rather out of the blue but has rather reverted to type since then.
Found some sort of form last time out when she got into the frame for the first time in three years finishing third over C&D off this mark. No obvious reason why she should improve on that run though and this looks quite deep for a 0-60.
From a yard that are always to be respected here but his last win was over two years ago and despite the falling mark and a break that often refreshes he still looks up against it here.
Showed some promise on her first run for the yard albeit off a mark of 48 and now finds herself 3lb lower. Might need to settle better to show her true worth but is possibly a little better than this basement mark.
His pedigree had suggested that he might be capable of better despite showing very little in maidens and the step into handicaps showed him in a better light admittedly operating off a lowly mark. In terms of position his task was very difficult in a C&D 0-65 handicap last time out but he stayed on well and caught the eye finishing just behind a couple of today's rivals and there looks to be more to come.

A few of the connections of the runners here will be wishing that they had ended up in the first division as this must be one of the most competitive races at this level for quite some while. Harbour Patrol and Jack Blane both finished in front of Pipe Dreamer last time out but it won’t be a surprise to see the last named reverse that form with that experience under his belt and the yard in cracking form. That’s not to write off the other two either who are both capable at this level and have shown promise of late. None of the Irish raiders make that much appeal here but one who does and is the suggestion is DARVIE for whom the 7f looks sure to suit as will the drop in grade after his Redcar run last time out which has already seen its form boosted.
- Darvie
- Pipe Dreamer
