A $160,000 purchase for Godolphin, he is bred to be effective over this trip and merits a second look in the betting. Yard's juveniles do usually get better with experience, so no lost cause if he needs the run today.
On his way to becoming exposed and is unlikely to be good enough to go on and fulfil his entries at Royal Ascot. Others make more appeal despite the obvious appeal of his illustrious connections.
Related to winners between 7f and 1m2f, so should be fine with the demands placed on his stamina. The market may be the best gauge towards his readiness on his belated racecourse bow.
Bred to be effective around this sort of trip and hails from a yard in-form. The betting will again be helpful in sorting his standing in the pecking order amongst the debutantes.
Finished fifth of seven in a Listed race last time out over C&D, which sets a good standard for the rest to aim at for the time being. Also versatile regarding the ground and it will take a good one to peg him back if he puts his experience to good use. Especially if he is set alight by the first-time blinkers.
Yard is very capable of developing three-year-olds into toughened campaigners, so worth a check in the betting at least. Trip should suit, so also appeals as a newcomer to keep on the right side.
Cost €50,000 but never looked like repaying the first instalment when well held on debut. Nicely-bred but strikes as one that may need more experience under his belt.
Appeared to have no obvious excuse for a tepid performance over 10f last time out. Previous form was OK and possible the step up in trip will help but still comes here with something to prove.
Closely matched with Mauricio after finishing ahead of that rival at Limerick on debut. Didn't show much progress last time out, however, and is another that needs to up the ante if he is going to get involved in the thick of the action.
Cost 500,000 gns and is a half-brother to useful performers over a variety of trips. His latest effort, when a close second behind an Aidan O'Brien hop-pot reads well (holds both Peace maker and Mauricio on form so far), and this slightly longer trip may be the making of him. Definitely one for the shortlist.
Regally bred and holds a handful of top entries. Has to be considered as a contender in a race of this nature and looks sure to make an impact somewhere along the line.
The form of her latest start looks pretty solid (winner now rated 90), so looks the best hope from the yard's two contenders. And, with the assistance of the fillies allowance, she has sound claims on these terms. Place claims at least.
Improvement needed after a less than inspiring debut at Tipperary and looks the lesser light from Dermot Weld's pair for the race.
Cost £26,000 and pedigree not as illustrious as a few of the rest. But finished just 1l behind All Of Me at The Curragh on debut last month, so has scope for improvement. Interesting if backed to make the frame.
Forecasts
Steel Prince (4/5), Haripour (4/1), Erratic Path (7/1), World Stage (7/1), All Of Me (10/1), Justinian (12/1), Ensign (14/1), Mauricio (33/1), Don Pedro (33/1), Hague Convention (40/1), Purdey (40/1), Kalamriyda (40/1), Mastermind (50/1), Peace Maker (66/1)
Quarter measures won't be good enough here and while the likes of Haripour, All Of Me and Purdey all appeal as leading contenders at this level, they will all need to step things up a notch if STEEL PRINCE builds on his narrow defeat at the hands of the Royal Ascot-bound Wisconsin. The step up in trip will suit the Nathaniel colt and he looks the best option from those with experience. Aidan O'Brien as usual clouds the picture for everyone else by introducing a nicely-bred individual in she form of World Stage, who looks the more desirable option from Ballydoyle. He will need to be pretty smart to deliver at the first time of asking in this company so strong support for the son of Galileo would be dangerous to ignore.
- Steel Prince
- World Stage
- Haripour
