Has risen in the weights on the back of an Ayr (hurdles) and Catterick (chase) double during February/March. Beaten from this mark by Welcome Ben at Kelso earlier in the month.
A winner on his final start for Graeme McPherson at Market Rasen in July 2016, he's been well out of form in five starts for this yard, and has pulled up on his last three outings, including in a Point-to-Point at Witton Castle over Easter (saddle slipped).
Has been unable to take full advantage of a falling handicap mark since the turn of the year, regularly placed at his beloved Sedgefield. A tricky customer to win with, he finished behind Sky Full Of Stars at Kelso recently.
Tipperary winner in May 2015, and hasn't been with this trainer for long, but was a remote third of five to Whitsundays at Sedgefield late last month, and on that evidence needs to take a giant step forward to play a hand here. Leading rider booked.
Previous course winner over hurdles and fences, but is a tough horse to predict. Took advantage of a guilt edged opportunity at Musselburgh early last month (runner up won since), but not so effective back over hurdles latest. Clear chance if putting his best foot forward back over fences from a 2lb higher mark.
Eight race maiden, and absent since finishing sixth of nine to Simmply Sam in a 2m3f handicap hurdle at Ayr in January. Makes just his third career (rules) start over fences.
Veteran who hasn't won since March 2014, but posted a clear recent best when a 5L runner up to Chain of Beacons at Newcastle earlier this month (Have You Had Yours fourth). Similar ground conditions anticipated.
Dual C&D winner (2013 and 2014), but hasn't won now for over two years. Unable to take advantage of a free falling handicap mark, and dropped a further 6lb since finishing fourth to Chain of Beacons at Newcastle recently (My Idea second).
Goes well around Sedgefield, and a versatile sort at that track over hurdles and fences. Fully entitled to improve for his recent reappearance fifth of 12 over hurdles at Wetherby (off a nine month break), but possibly high enough in the weights at present.
C&D winner from a 1lb lower mark in June 2016 (subsequent multiple winner Halcyon Days third), but unable to recapture that form in three starts since December 2016. Better than the bare placings imply on her most recent start at Southwell (off a short break) and not totally out of the equation if back to her best.
His sole career success came in a 2m3f handicap hurdle at Sedgefield over two years ago (March 2015), and he's barely looked like troubling the judge since. However, he is unexposed over fences, but needs to do better than on his sole fencing start at Musselburgh last month (pulled up in a competitive novices chase)
Likes this track with four of his six career successes coming here, but that was when he was a progressive type (in the grade) during 2013 and 2014. Arguably not as effective over fences as hurdles, and only able to post midfield finishes in both chase outings here in October/November 2016.
Showed very little over hurdles and still a maiden in that grade. Pulled-up on his chasing debut in a 3m handicap here in March and looks out of his depth even more so now dropped back to 2m.
Forecasts
Sendiym (5/1), My Idea (11/2), Miss Conway (13/2), Pekanheim (7/1), Don Franco (7/1), Sky Full Of Stars (8/1), Morning Time (9/1), Crinkle Crags (11/1), Have You Had Yours (12/1), Roxyfet (16/1), Here Comes Love (25/1), Warksburn Boy (80/1), Trillerin Minella (125/1)
A rather grim looking handicap chase which is full of infrequent winners. Sky Full Of Stars is top-weighted with good reason after at least posting a couple of wins earlier this year, but he was beaten from this mark last time at Kelso. C&D winner Miss Conway is of interest on her very best form, and could be tough to peg back from the front if sharper for her recent spin at Southwell. Whilst it takes a brave soul to 'back' PEKANHEIM, he took full advantage of a golden opportunity to score on his penultimate start at Musselburgh (and that form looks stronger now than it did at the time with the runner up successful at Newcastle since). The Martin Todhunter trained gelding also knows what it takes to win at this track, and whilst this race is numerically stronger than that Musselburgh race, it is certainly no stronger in terms of overall depth.
- Pekanheim
- Miss Conway
