Rated 138 when landing a Fakenham handicap chase in October 2015 (3m, good) but very disappointing since and has made no impression in hunter chases of late. Cheek pieces now combined with regularly worn tongue strap but still not easy to fancy despite stable's good form.
Almost three years since the second of his two career wins, a 2m2½f novices hurdle at Newton Abbot (soft). Inconsistent in handicaps since then and switched to chasing at Towcester last time, where he went well for a long way. Is unexposed over fences and the drop in trip is potentially positive. An interesting runner under the champion jockey.
Benefited from a typically forceful ride from today's jockey to make most of the running and win in fine style over C&D (good to soft) last time and has strung together back-to-back victories before now. Back out under a penalty in a race that is probably not quite as strong and with similar tactics, he could give them all plenty to think about.
Burst blood vessel when pulled up behind a Sue Smith-trained hotpot at Catterick last time and that has to be a concern. Has won two of his three races in the spring, though successes have been at Sedgefield and Southwell and at 4lb higher than his best win he looks worth taking on today.
Has found winning difficult in recent seasons, his sole chase success being as a novice at Stratford in 2013. Races from the same mark today as when successful in a handicap hurdle last season so may be able to do better, though recent form uninspiring.
Came back to form for some better ground at Musselburgh last time out, after a huge slide in the handicap. Races from the same mark today and is entitled to be thereabouts once again.
Forecasts
Swing Hard (15/8), Open Hearted (7/2), Volt Face (9/2), Treat Yourself (7/1), Attimo (8/1), Harry Hunt (9/1)
SWING HARD recorded back-to-back successes last spring and looks capable of defying a penalty and repeating both that feat and his C&D success of last week. Volt Face is perhaps the most interesting of his opponents, while Treat Yourself may again be capable of picking up some prize money.
