Useful chaser who was formerly with Paul Nicholls and was pulled up in the Grand National for that yard last season on his last run for the stable. Made a winning start for his new yard in a C&D Hunters' Chase in January in a tougher race than this, and should make a bold bid to follow up today.
Winning hurdler and chaser whose last win came at Perth over 3m last year. Tailed off behind Black Thunder last time out over C&D and clearly has lots of work to reverse the form.
Formerly useful chaser who's having his first run for nearly two years when pulled-up behind Black Thunder over C&D. Could well win races after being understandably tenderly handled last time out but clearly not the force of old.
Formerly useful over fences under Rules when trained by Kim Bailey and has 11 point-to-point wins from 18 starts to his name. If he ran to form here he has solid place claims.
Finished runner-up in this last year and his point-to-point form reads 1122P3. Capable in this sphere but hasn't come across a horse of the class of Black Thunder before.
Forecasts
Black Thunder (1/8), Green Flag (8/1), Premier Portrait (12/1), Wicklow Lad (20/1), Mister Marker (20/1), Molten Brown (66/1), Bang On Time (100/1)
On a card with plenty of short-priced favourites, BLACK THUNDER looks to be the shortest and given that he had a few of these behind him last time out, he’ll be hard to beat here. Green Flag was one of those behind the favourite last time but he was tenderly handled after coming back from a long absence and may well step forward here. Premier Portrait looks capable of winning at this level, as does Wicklow Lad, but all of them may be chasing Black Thunder home.
