Ed Bethell thinks six furlongs at Group 1 level on soft ground is the ideal scenario for his Paborus.
And with the Haydock Park ground already soft with more rain forecast, it looks highly likely he's going to get those optimum conditions in the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes this Saturday.
The trainer told the Nick Luck Daily Podcast on Tuesday: "I'm really looking forward to running him.
"He's in very good form at home since the run at York, hopefully he gets the conditions and he can show everyone what he's made of.
"I was really pleased with him [when eighth in the Sky Bet City Of York Stakes over seven furlongs last time out].
"I just thought to myself he travelled as if he was going to do something and I think just the final furlong in that higher level of company, he just got found out a bit.
"Actually, going back to the Chipchase, six furlongs is probably what he wants and at this level it's where his game should be.
"I think it's more for the longevity of the horse, trying to keep him on nice ground rather than running him on quick ground too often.
"He's got big dinner-plate feet, he's by Recoletos, he's got the Whipper line, so hopefully he can run a big race on soft ground."
Paborus is 12/1 for the Sprint Cup with Sky Bet and Paddy Power.
