What is a Trixie Bet?

'Trixie' bet consists of four bets from three selections, and includes three doubles and one treble. To gain a return from this bet type, the bettor much successfully pick two winners, with three winners returning the full amount from the Trixie

If you want to place a bet on three selections but still get a return if one of the selections loses, then a Trixie is a great option as it covers a treble and doubles for all the selections. Using just doubles and trebles does not offer such fail-safes. In those multiples, all selections must win or there is no return.

All our bookmaker partners offer Trixie bets on sports such as horse racing, football and greyhounds – you can place Trixie bets on most sports markets as long as you are selecting singles across different events. You cannot place a Trixie on several outcomes in the same event, for example Horse A to finish first, Horse B to finish second, and Horse C to finish third. There are other types of bet that can be used for this sort of situation, like a Tricast.

Trixie Bet Example

A Trixie bet must instead be placed on different events, with one horse finishing first in the first race, another horse finishing first in the second race and a third horse finishing first in the third race.

Lets say you wanted to have a bet on three fixtures in the Champions League, using the below predictions:

  • Real Madrid will beat Manchester City at 2/1
  • Paris Saint-Germain will beat Bayern Munich at 3/1
  • Liverpool will beat Sporting at 4/1

By placing a a Trixie bet on the above selections, you will be placing the following bets:

  • Double bet that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain will win
  • Double bet that Real Madrid and Liverpool will win
  • Double bet that Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool will win
  • Treble bet that Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool will win

By placing a Trixie bet, you are covering yourself incase one of the selections doesn't win, but the other two do. If just one selection wins and two lose, there would not be a return as there are no singles in a Trixie.

Bets Similar to a Trixie Bet

As mentioned, the trixie bet is similar to a treble bet in that three selections are being made. However, under the conditions of a treble bet, the fail-safes that a Trixie bet offers do not exist. Under a treble bet, all selections must win or the bettor will make no return.

A Tricast also involves three selections, however it is almost exclusively used in racing events. In a Tricast you are making three seelctions on the same event, essentially prediciting the 1-2-3 finish of the race in that exact order. There are varieties on the Tricast, such as the Combination Tricast which involves selecting three horses in the same race, but being covered regardless of the finishing order.
