Weekend Winners: Details of large payouts, tales of punting genius and Sporting Life's winning tips

The weekend football results were relatively kind to the layers on the whole but that didn't stop several small-stakes punters winning big with Sky Bet.

King Richard

Richard from Sheffield, potentially a delighted Blade this morning, bolstered his royal coffers to the tune of £52k from just a £5 stake with a winning seven-fold acca on the -1 goal handicap market.

You'll be quite some nerd to have heard of more than four of the teams involved and while we can't claim to be experts on any of them, we can tell you that Breidablik scored in the third minute of stoppage-time to make Richard a very wealthy man.

Maybe he'll now choose to spend some of the money on a trip to where the Icelandic club are based in Kopavogur, a short distance south of Rejkyavik. Or at least make them his new second team.

Stake: £5.01

Bet type: -1 goals Handicap acca

Selections:

  • Difaa el Jadida 2-0 Moghreb Tetouan
  • Marbella 4-0 Don Benito
  • Sanat Naft 3-1 Naft Masjed Soleyman
  • Volta Redonda 3-0 Atletico Acreano
  • Colegiales 3-1 Tristan Suarez
  • Nice 3-0 Guingamp
  • Grindavik 0-2 Breidablik

Returns: £52,197

Where do some punters come up with these bets?

Make mine a Metz

Three cheers for Metz! Not the Bacardi-based alcopop we all used to plough through in the 1990s - but FC Metz, the Lorraine-based Ligue 2 side in France who thankfully, for Patryk in Maidenhead at least, popped up with a 90th-minute winner against Red Star on Friday.

A glorious Opa Nguette strike in added time gave the Ligue 2 leaders another win on the road but more importantly for Patryk triggered the opening leg of a quite remarkable nine-fold wager.

The bet, which featured seven more Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 picks, also included BTTS & Over 3.5 goals in Augsberg v Bayer Leverkusen (ended 1-4, naturally) and Liverpool -3 on the handicap betting against Huddersfield in the Premier League.

The £6.30 bet returned over £13,000.

Just a couple of quid...

Andy from Leeds wasn't in the mood for messing about waiting for the end of the football and went and landed a cool £3,200 from a £2 stake before the second halves even kicked off on Saturday.

Andy went down the Both Teams To Score in the 1st Half route and it paid off handsomely with his five-fold duly obliging over the weekend.

Crawley pulling one back to make it 4-1 against Carlisle and Wigan scoring an equaliser in the third minute of first-half added time against Birmingham were more than welcome on the vidiprinter.

Stake: £2

Bet type: BBTS in 1st Half Accumulator

Selections:

  • Southampton 3-3 Bournemouth
  • Birmingham 1-1 Wigan
  • Sunderland 1-1 Portsmouth
  • Carlisle 4-2 Crawley Town

The magnificent seven

Record-breaker Altior provided one of the highlights in a fitting climax to the National Hunt season at Sandown on Saturday so it was fitting that his long odds-on victory would a smile of the faces of a few punters as well.

On a day that saw Paul Nicholls hailed as champion trainer and Richard Johnson take the leading rider title, the imperious Altior extended his unbeaten run over fences to a record 19 as he led all the way to win the bet365 Celebration Chase for the third successive year.

Another superlative round of fencing saw the 1/6 favourite come home a two-and-a-half-length winner under Nico de Boinville, with trainer Nicky Henderson already looking at a step up in trip for the King George next season.

James, from Merthyr Tydfil, is one Sky Bet punter who was surely toasting the great chaser over the weekend after he won £12,220 with a perfect seven winners from seven in a 30p each-way accumulator from the principle ITV races.

Getaway Trump, Safe Voyage, Black Corton, Hey Gaman and, fittingly, Pour Me A Drink also featured in the small-stakes multiple, while the seven was completed by Talkischeap's imperious performance in what had looked a tricky bet365 Gold Cup later on the Sandown card.

Getaway Trump was also providing in-form tipster Simon Holt with another winner on these pages after scoring in the valuable handicap hurdle at 7/2.

The return of the seven

Not to be outdone in the 'seven stakes', Moneeb from Manchester netted a tidy £6,400 from a 16p each-way, seven-fold accumulator on the very same day, while Joe, from Leeds, went one better with a £20 eight-fold acca in the place betting markets.

Horses featured in the place-only multiple included Give Me A Copper, Black Corton and Wait For Me.
