David Wagner: Former Huddersfield Town boss returns to Germany as manager of Bundesliga side Schalke

Former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has returned to management back in Germany after being appointed as manager of Schalke from the start of next season.

Wagner has signed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga side to replace caretaker manager Huub Stevens - who took over when Domenico Tedesco was sacked back in March.

Wagner led the Terriers to the Premier League and defied the odds to avoid relegation in their first season, but left the club in January this year after struggling to replicate their form in their second season in the top flight.

He will take the reins of a Schalke side that have struggled this year in 15th in the Bundesliga but are at least safe from relegation ahead of the final two games of the season.
