Turkey defender Merih Demiral banned for two games over celebration

Merih Demiral has been banned for two games for making an ultra-nationalist salute during Turkey's Euro 2024 round-of-16 win over Austria.

The defender scored both goals in a 2-1 victory and will now miss his team's quarter-final against the Netherlands on Saturday.

Demiral, 26, celebrated with a 'wolf salute', associated with far-right extremist group Grey Wolves and banned in both Austria and France.

He posted on social media to say he pre-planned to celebrate in that way in case he scored.
