The Premier League title is in the bag, but there’s still the small matter of that record points tally to play for if Liverpool really want it – and bookmakers believe it’s well within range as Jurgen Klopp’s side are odds-on to break the 100-point barrier.
Pep Guardiola’s glorious centurion team of 2017/18 won exactly 100 points in their triumphant season, and with seven games to play and standing on 86 points, new champions Liverpool can still get to a mind-boggling 107 points if they win every game.
With an upcoming trip to the Etihad and both Arsenal and Chelsea left to play it won’t be plain sailing, but everything we know about Klopp tells you that he’ll be demanding his team finish the season as the dominant champions they already are.

The Reds are 4/7 to win 100-plus points, while they’re 10/11 (Price Boosted to Evens) to get 101 or more (as Jim Bowen used to say) and eclipse that wonderful City team.
Klopp’s side are 25/1 to win all of their last seven games to finish on that 107 points, while that would also see you cash in on the 5/2 for them remaining unbeaten until the end of the season.
Will the Reds go for glory?
There’s a case for Liverpool easing down to the line given the situation now – the lack of fans, the extra substitutions and the summer heat, while it could also be the ideal situation to give youngsters like Harvey Elliott, Neco Williams and Curtis Jones more game time.
Easing up is not something in Klopp’s DNA though, and that would also send out the wrong message to the rest of the league for next season, which will follow hot on the heels of this campaign.

A strong finish, and a record points tally to boot, would just reinforce the fact the Reds are the team to beat – they’re the big dogs in the Premier League yard – and that in itself gives them a psychological edge over the rest.
Don’t for a minute think that Klopp and the team don’t see or hear all the talk about the title being ‘tainted’ because of the coronavirus shutdown, or that they’ll be ‘asterisk champions’ because of it. They’ve already shown they’re the best, they’ll want to show that they’re by far the best – and perhaps even THE best if they can top City’s previous record.
You can argue about different sides being the best in Premier League history, about needing to win multiple titles to be considered a great team, and those have merit, but there’s also such a thing as putting in a truly great season.
Man Utd won league after league after league in becoming a great team, Chelsea bullied the league to win titles and Arsenal went unbeaten of course – but nobody has ever managed to put so much clear daylight between themselves and the chasing pack. Liverpool have socially distanced themselves from the rest of the league in record fashion.
How many points will Liverpool end up with?
It’s never this simple of course, but it looks like five winnable games left in their remaining seven fixtures. Villa and Brighton will still be scrapping for survival so the intensity will be up, but the lack of crowds can often negate that.
You wouldn’t fear Arsenal if you were Liverpool and although Chelsea sealed the title for Klopp, he’ll want revenge for them knocking his side out of the FA Cup just before the break.
City’s the obvious one on Thursday, and they’ll be desperate to show that they are at least as good, if not better on their day, than Liverpool. Picture the end of Rocky III when Balbao and Apollo Creed go toe-to-toe in an empty gym, nobody watching, to settle who’s the better fighter once and for all. That'll be the scene at the Etihad with nothing really on the line but who is the better team on the night.
All results are possible here and we could get a humdinger of a game like the Chelsea epic, although if City defend like they did at Stamford Bridge things could get ugly.

You’ve also got Mohamed Salah and even Sadio Mane still in the Golden Boot running, and if you think Salah in particular won’t be desperate to try and win it for a third year running then you don’t know too much about goal scorers.
The circumstances the way they are, and with City and Chelsea in there, seven wins seems unlikely but going unbeaten wouldn’t be a huge surprise and getting to three figures, which would mean four wins and two draws, is well within grasp you’d imagine.
The special on them finishing on exactly 101 points (13/2) troubles me slightly as they need to win exactly five games and lose two, or win four and draw three, and even in this current set-up it’s hard to see this Liverpool side either losing two games (as many as they have in almost two seasons) or drawing three (they’ve drawn two all season).
All things being equal I have them on 102 points minimum, as long as Klopp keeps going with his strongest team – I can see a defeat to Chelsea or Man City, but not both, and I just don’t think those other sides will be able to keep them at arm’s length.
Lockdown football has shown us that the better teams are still better, and if anything it’s the lesser sides that need the adrenalin of a big crowd to maintain their disciplined approach to stopping Klopp’s marauding Liverpool.
The title’s now done and dusted and the pressure’s off, but this Liverpool side have shown they enjoy the pressing and counter-pressing, they thrive on getting in opposition faces and imposing their will on games.
I can’t see these rampant reds easing up to the line, they want to prove that they’re one of the best Premier Leagues sides that’s ever graced the competition. And they’ve got every chance of showing it.
