Round-up

Centre-back Ragnar Klavan was Liverpool's unlikely match-winner at Burnley as his close-range header in the fourth minute of added time made light of the absence of three of the 'Fab Four'.

With £75million world-record defender Virgil van Dijk waiting in the wings for his debut, the focus has been turned on the Reds' central defenders, but it was at the other end of the pitch where Estonian Klavan proved his worth.

Jurgen Klopp's side looked like they had thrown away two points when Johan Berg Gudmundsson's 88th-minute equaliser cancelled out a stunning strike from Sadio Mane.

Sky Bet made them 66/1 in-running with just seconds remaining, before Klavan popped up barely a yard out to nod in from a free-kick move to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win.

Liverpool are 1/3 for a top-four finish in the Premier League as a result.

Mark Hughes is very much on the hotseat at Stoke City

The pressure on Stoke boss Mark Hughes increased as Ayoze Perez's second-half strike secured Newcastle a 1-0 New Year's Day victory at the bet365 Stadium.

Hughes has now been cut from 1/4 to 1/5 by Sky Bet to be the next manager in the top flight to leave his position.

Perez struck in the 73rd minute to earn the Magpies - whose goalkeeper Karl Darlow made two superb late saves to deny Mame Diouf - a victory that takes them above the Potters in the table.

Newcastle's second win in 13 matches moves them up three places to 13th and they are now four points clear of the relegation zone.

Stoke, who have won only two in 12, drop one place to 16th and remain two points clear of the drop zone.

Cries of "you're being sacked in the morning" were heard after the goal, and there were boos from Stoke fans at the final whistle, while a 'Hughes Out' banner was on display.

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard's fine second-half strikes delivered a first win in five for Manchester United as they lifted the gloom of their festive period by beating Everton 2-0.

Jose Mourinho's men had signed off 2017 by exiting the Carabao Cup to Championship side Bristol City prior to three successive draws, yet a stirring second-half performance at Goodison Park on New Year's Day meant they got back on track.

Following a dull first 45, Martial, playing up front in the absence of injured duo Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, curled home a 57th-minute opener before Lingard smashed in his seventh goal in nine games nine minutes from time.

United are now 1/6 for a top-four finish and 13/8 to chase home rivals City in Sky Bet's 'without the favourites' market.

Riyad Mahrez's classy volley inspired Leicester to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Huddersfield.

The winger lit up a turgid game before Islam Slimani scored his first Premier League goal since April last year and Marc Albrighton wrapped up the points.

The biggest cheer of the afternoon was reserved for Adrien Silva as he made his delayed debut as an 86th-minute substitute in a match marred by captain Wes Morgan limping off injured before the half-hour mark.

Callum Wilson's second goal in three games earned Bournemouth a 2-2 draw at Brighton in the early kick-off.

The former Coventry striker's reflex finish secured a point for the Cherries at the Amex Stadium, after Glenn Murray's strike had left the hosts eyeing victory. Brighton forward Jose Izquierdo produced two assists in an unselfish display, teeing up first Anthony Knockaert and then Murray.

Steve Cook's looping header had the visitors level at half-time, however, and Wilson snaffled them a point with his fifth league goal of the campaign 11 minutes from time.
