Premier League transfer news: Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope signs new four-year deal at Turf Moor

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope has signed a new four-year contract at Turf Moor as Sean Dyche remains with three England goalkeepers to pick from.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has agreed terms on a new deal until 2023 after an injury-plagued campaign that restricted him to just three first-team appearances

"I am in a good place. The shoulder feels good and I'm looking forward to coming back ready for next season," said Pope.

Pope took over as Burnley's number one in the 2017-18 campaign following an injury to Tom Heaton and his form saw him picked for England's World Cup squad last summer.

But his absence this term gave Heaton the chance to regain his place in both Burnley's net and the England squad, while the Clarets also signed former national team first-choice Joe Hart.

Pope is determined to push for his place back in the Burnley side.

"I want to get back to where I left off and help the club build on the three years I've had here so far," he said.

"Last year was a bit of a non-starter for me with the injury. It was frustrating and didn't pan out as I hoped after such a high the season before.

"But it's been a fantastic time here and I want to help the club to keep moving forward."

There is also the option to extend Pope's new contract for a further 12 months, which would tie him to Turf Moor until 2024.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: "After a difficult, injury-affected year, through no fault of his own, Nick lost a season's work.

"But we are absolutely delighted that he has now agreed a new long-term deal, which mirrors the aim of the club.

"We have always said we want to be strong in the market and that includes when it comes to other clubs trying to get our players. This is a clear sign of that.

"Nick has shown himself to be a real professional and we are delighted to have him at the club until 2024 and look forward to continuing the good work he has already achieved."
