Fantasy Football verdict on new Manchester City signings

Matt Temple-Marsh looks at which of Manchester City's summer signings are worth considering for Sky Sports Fantasy Football.

As they move beyond the £200million spending mark with the acquisition of Benjamin Mendy, we look at which of Manchester City's signings are worth considering for your Sky Sports Fantasy Football team.

The Etihad outfit kicked off their summer spree by signing Bernado Silva and they have finally announced the £52 million signing of his former Monaco team-mate Benjamin Mendy.

City have also sealed the signing of Ederson, Kyle Walker and Danilo to establish themselves as favourites to win the Premier League this season.

We look to see which of new signings are viable for Fantasy bosses...

Benjamin Mendy (£8.3million)

Full-backs were a glaring issue for City last season and Guardiola has firmly addressed that problem with a trio of high-profile signings, with Benjamin Mendy the latest through the door.

The 22-year-old impressed throughout the domestic campaign and the Champions League, even earning the Man of the Match award against his new club in the Champions League round of 16.

He is a competent defender but is more renowned for his powerful runs forward and lethal delivery into the box, averaging 1.4 crosses per game and one key pass, a significant increase on Gael Clichy's 0.3 crosses per game and 0.6 key passes.

Mendy assisted his team-mates five times in Ligue 1 in just 24 appearances, and looks to be a smart Fantasy purchase at a fantastic price, especially with limited competition for places.

Bernardo Silva (£9.8million)

Bernardo Silva has been brought into the ranks as the heir to his namesake's throne, David Silva, but the Spaniard might not be ready to relinquish his crown just yet.

Voted as City's player of the season David Silva had a quietly successful campaign, that didn't quite show up in his goals and assists totals, scoring just four times and only assisting seven more.

On the other hand, Bernado Silva managed to score eight goals and provided nine assists in Ligue 1, but he may well struggle to produce these numbers in Manchester without similar playing time, with additional competition from Kevin De Bruyne.

Beyond the goals and assist totals David Silva has the upper hand on the 22-year-old. The Spaniard averages 61 passes per game, nearly double of his new team-mate's 31.2 total. The veteran also finds 2.4 key passes per game, much greater than the 22-year-old's 1.6.

Bernado Silva looks certain to make an impact down the line, but whilst David Silva is controlling the midfield, patience may well be his most important attribute.

Ederson (£7.4million)

Claudio Bravo had a questionable season to say the least, so the signing of new goalkeeper came as no real surprise.

Ederson, on paper, appears a huge upgrade, having collected a remarkable 17 clean sheets in just 27 games for Benfica, a stark contrast to Bravo's six in 22 games.

Indeed, the 23-year-old only conceded 12 goals throughout the entire domestic campaign, producing 49 saves in the process. Bravo's well publicised blunders led to the Chilean conceding 26 goals, with just 27 saves.

However, it remains to be seen whether he can bring that form into the Premier League.

Kyle Walker (£9.5million)

Kyle Walker enjoyed his best season to date with Tottenham, helping to form the league's stingiest defence whilst providing five assists for his team-mates, earning a spot in the PFA Team of the Year in the process.

The full-back faces a new challenge with City, though, reverting back to a traditional back four after benefiting from the support of Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier for much of his campaign with Spurs.

City's defence, on the other hand, conceded 50 per cent more goals than Mauricio Pochettino's men.

Whilst Pep's defensive personnel has drastically changed, it still may take some time for Fantasy bosses to be convincing given his pricing as City's most expensive defender.

Danilo (£8.4million)

Yet another Brazilian joins the Manchester City ranks as Danilo agreed to sign. The full-back primarily served as a squad player at Real Madrid, playing second fiddle to Dani Carvajal, but can also operate as a defensive midfielder.

Last season Danilo made 17 league appearances in LaLiga, his lowest season total since 2012. The Brazilian managed to keep just four clean sheets in his brief stint as first choice.

Despite his low clean sheet total, the 26-year-old proved his worth as a competent full-back. The defender contributed one goal and two assists, whilst producing an average of three tackles per game.

The former Porto man looks a strong acquisition to City's squad but up against the challenge of dislodging Walker as first-choice right-back, starts the season with limited appeal for Fantasy bosses.
