Donny van de Beek: Manchester United agree deal for Ajax midfielder

Manchester United have agreed a £40m deal with Ajax for midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to reports.

The Netherlands international, 23, was left out for Ajax’s friendly against Frankfurt on Saturday, with manager Erik ten Hag saying there had been developments regarding his future.

Things have progressed quickly since, and with personal terms unlikely to be an issue he is expected to become United's first signing of the summer.

Van de Beek has long been linked with a big-money move having played a key role in Ajax's run to the semi-finals of last year’s Champions League.

The appointment of his national team coach Ronald Koeman as Barcelona boss had led to suggestions he could join both him and former Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong at the Camp Nou.

But it would seem that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United, fresh from the disappointment of seemingly missing out on Jadon Sancho for at least another 12 months, have won the race for Van de Beek's signature.
