Luton were thrashed 5-3 at West Brom on the final day of the Sky Bet Championship season to suffer back-to-back relegations.
They join already condemned Cardiff and Plymouth, who were all but mathematically down before their 2-1 home defeat by Leeds, in dropping in to League One.
Only a win would make the Hatters safety certain, and that never looked likely as they capitulated at The Hawthorns to trail 3-1 at half-time and 5-1 shortly after the break, before scoring two late consolation goals.
It left Matt Bloomfield's side hoping Portsmouth would do them a favour at Fratton Park by beating Hull, but with that match ending in a 1-1 draw Luton were relegated on goal difference.
