Leeds United are looking to make a swift appointment in the next 48 hours, after identifying Paul Heckingbottom as the man to take the club's head coach vacancy.
Heckingbottom, currently in charge of Leeds' Sky Bet Championship rivals Barnsley, only signed a new contract at Oakwell last week but it is believed the Whites are willing to pay his release clause after sacking Thomas Christiansen on Sunday evening.
Steve McClaren started Monday as the favourite for the job, followed by Simon Grayson while former Stuttgart boss Hannes Wolf's odds shortened dramatically throughout the day, but Heckingbottom was then punted into 1/10 with Sky Bet after indications Leeds were looking to get a deal done.
The West Yorkshire side started the season well under Christiansen, but the Dane leaves them after a seven-game winless run which has them seven points adrift of the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.
They are now 11/1 to finish in the top six in May, and 33/1 for promotion to the Premier League.
