Bayer Leverkusen moved up to third in the Bundesliga table as Kai Havertz again proved the match-winner in a 1-0 victory at Freiburg.
The 20-year-old's fifth goal in four games since the German top flight's return came in the 54th minute of an otherwise turgid encounter, much of which was down to the home side's tactics.
Havertz, who has now scored 10 times in his last 12 appearances, was picked out by a perfectly back-heeled through-ball from Leon Bailey before somehow managing to toe-poke home from close to the by-line, while surrounded by Freiburg defenders.
The hosts did have an opportunity to level late on, but Nils Petersen failed to make good enough contact when well placed in the area, giving Leverkusen keeper Lukas Hradecky an easy save.
That, along with Havertz's winner, were the game's only shots on target.
The best chance of a match that provided precious few came in first-half injury time, when Freiburg's Lucas Holer ran clean through on goal but side-footed his effort wide.
Victory for Peter Bosz's side lifts them above RB Leipzig to just a point behind second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
Freiburg stay eighth.
