Skipper Sergio Ramos was sent off in stoppage time as Real Madrid opened their LaLiga title defence with a 3-0 victory at Deportivo La Coruna.

Ramos was dismissed for a second bookable offence on a night when goals from Gareth Bale, Casemiro and Toni Kroos secured a comprehensive win without the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo.

Deportivo started brightly with Real keeper Keylor Navas twice denying Romania striker Florin Andone inside the opening eight minutes.

However, it did not take the visitors long to slip into top gear and after keeper Ruben had spilled Luka Modric's 20th-minute shot, Karim Benzema squared unselfishly for Bale to open the scoring.

The second goal arrived just seven minutes later when holding midfielder Casemiro arrived with perfect timing at the far post to turn home full-back Marcelo's driven cross.

Ramos and Deportivo defender Fabian Schar were cautioned after a 53rd-minute clash off the ball which might have seen both dismissed, but the game was effectively over within eight minutes when Kroos swept home a third from the edge of the box.

Guilherme rattled the crossbar seconds later as the home side sought some consolation and Andone saw his 90th-minute penalty saved by Navas before Ramos was cautioned for a second time.

Lionel Messi hit the post three times as Barcelona too got their season off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory over Real Betis.

The 30-year-old, who was looking for his 350th goal in the competition, was denied by the woodwork before the break and twice after it as Betis keeper Antonio Adan enjoyed good fortune at the Nou Camp.

However, an evening on which the club paid tribute to the victims of last week's terrorist attack in the city before kick-off ended in satisfactory fashion for the Catalan giants with Alin Tosca's own goal and a second from Sergi Roberto handing new manager Ernesto Valverde victory in his first league game at the helm.

Barca, whose players wore the word "Barcelona" on the backs of their shirts rather than their own names, might have taken the lead with less than three minutes gone when Gerard Deulofeu stabbed a shot wide from close range.

Messi whipped a left-foot effort wide seconds later with the visitors firmly on the back foot, and then curled a 14th-minute free-kick on to the roof of the net with Adan scrambling desperately in a vain bid to reach it.

Messi went even closer with a swerving 25th-minute shot, and was then denied by the post 10 minutes later with his shot having comprehensively beaten Adan.

However, Barca took the lead within seconds when defender Tosca turned Deulofeu's cross into his own net, and it was 2-0 six minutes before the break.

Javier Mascherano's superbly-timed challenge on Leon Limones sparked a lighting break which ended in emphatic style when Roberto steered Deulofeu's cross into the net.

Messi went agonisingly close once again on the hour when he ended a scintillating run with a curling left-foot shot which once again clipped the foot of the post with Adan helpless.

Barca were rampant, but their Argentinian superstar's luck had for once deserted him when he hit the woodwork for a third time with nine minutes remaining, this time from a blistering rising drive.

Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita was his side's hero as 10-man Getafe left Athletic Bilbao with a hard-earned point.

Promoted Getafe played the final 24 minutes with a numerical disadvantage after midfielder Alvaro Jimenez had been sent off for a second bookable offence, and they might even have emerged with all three points had it not been for Kepa Arrizabalaga's save from Markel Bergara's early header.

On Saturday, Antoine Griezmann was sent off as Atletico Madrid battled back to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw at LaLiga newcomers Girona in their opening match of the new season.

The Catalans were making their debut in Spain's top flight.

Following a minute's silence at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi in respect of the victims of the terror attacks in Barcelona and the nearby seaside town of Cambrils, Girona raced into a two-goal lead.

Uruguay forward Cristhian Stuani headed in a cross at the far post on 22 minutes and was on target again just three minutes later when he nodded the ball in after it had been knocked back through the six-yard box following a deep free-kick.

Atletico, who are said to be closing in on a deal to bring wantaway Chelsea forward Diego Costa back to the club, then found themselves down to 10 men.

In the 66th minute, Griezmann was cautioned for what the referee viewed as a dive over Girona goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz just inside the penalty box.

The French forward, who failed to find the net in pre-season following a barren run in Atletico's final five LaLiga games, then appeared to say something to the official.

Referee Juan Martinez Munuera swiftly showed Griezmann another yellow card followed by a red to leave Diego Simeone's men with it all to do.

However, Atleti responded when Angel Correa pulled a goal back with a fine individual strike in the 78th minute before, with just six minutes left, Jose Gimenez headed in an equaliser from Koke's free-kick.

In Saturday's earlier kick-off, Willian Jose's late penalty gave Real Sociedad a 3-2 win at Celta Vigo.

Uruguay forward Maximiliano Gomez gave the hosts the lead in the 22nd minute.

Sociedad, tough, were level just 10 minutes later when Mikel Oyarzabal capitalised on a loose pass from goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez to score into an empty net.

Gomez was on target again five minutes into the second half, but the visitors set up a tense finish when Jose Juanmi equalised with 10 minutes left.

Then, with 88 minutes on the clock, Celta Vigo defender Jonny pulled down Carlos Vela and Brazilian frontman Willian Jose made no mistake from the spot, lashing the ball into the bottom corner to snatch all three points.

Saturday's late kick-off saw Sevilla and Espanyol draw 1-1 at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, where the hosts finished with 10 men following substitute Ever Banega's late dismissal for foul language.

Clement Lenglet put Sevilla ahead on 26 minutes when the defender bundled the ball in at the near post following a corner, but a fine individual goal from Leo Baptistao had the visitors level before half-time.

Both sides had chances to win the match, with Sevilla forward Luis Muriel rattling the woodwork, before Argentina midfielder Banega - who only came on just before the hour - lost his cool in the 84th minute after being cautioned and was then shown a red card by Alejandro Hernandez.

On Friday, Gabriel's close-range strike settled the first game of the new LaLiga season as Leganes beat Alaves 1-0.

The Brazilian struck in the 24th minute after Miguel Angel Guerrero's free-kick took a deflection and Alaves goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco could only push the ball into his path.

In doing so, Gabriel became the first Brazilian since Atletico Madrid midfielder Juninho in 1997 to score the opening goal of a LaLiga season.

Simone Zaza was the match-winner as Valencia started their campaign with a 1-0 home victory over 10-man Las Palmas.

The former Juventus and West Ham forward struck after 22 minutes when Carlos Soler rolled the ball into his path on the edge of the penalty area and he finished with a powerful side-foot which gave keeper Leandro Chichizola no chance.

It got a lot more difficult for Las Palmas when Croatian midfielder Halilovic was sent off after 34 minutes for catching Jose Gaya with a high foot.

Academy product Patrick Cutrone was the standout performer in an AC Milan team chock-full of expensive summer signings as his goal and assist helped the ambitious Rossoneri thrash 10-man Crotone 3-0 in Serie A on Sunday night.

The match at Stadio Ezio Scida was an opportunity for Milan fans - especially those who missed last week's 6-0 demolition of Shkendija in the Europa League play-offs - to get a first glimpse of the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Hakan Calhanoglu and Andre Silva, who have all signed up for a bold new era at San Siro.

However Silva, the striker purchased at a premium from Porto in June, did not start, with 19-year-old Cutrone preferred. Any disappointment among travelling supporters faded when, after Franck Kessie opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Cutrone headed his first league goal before deftly setting up Suso.

Crotone's task was made all the more difficult by the fact they lost centre-back Federico Ceccherini in the incident that allowed Kessie to notch from the spot.

The scoreline is the same one by which reigning champions Juventus beat Cagliari in Saturday's curtain-raiser and Milan will hope their determination to win a first Scudetto since 2011 has been effectively conveyed.

Inter Milan are also hoping to return to former glories under Chinese owners and Mauro Icardi got them off to a strong start with a brace in their 3-0 home victory over Fiorentina.

The Argentinian forward boosted Luciano Spalletti's Inter into an early lead from the penalty spot and turned Ivan Perisic's assist home in the 15th minute. In the second half Perisic - a reported target for Manchester United - turned scorer to rubber-stamp the outcome.

Aleksandar Kolarov ensured Eusebio Di Francesco made a winning start to life as Roma's new head coach by firing the Giallorossi to a 1-0 victory at Atalanta.

The summer signing from Manchester City steered home a 31st-minute free-kick that secured all three points for last season's runners-up.

Atalanta made an unexpected run to fourth place - and Europa League football - last term but the Bergamo outfit could not avoid defeat as substitute Josip Ilicic failed to salvage a point when he slammed the ball against a post with three minutes remaining.

Francesco Totti, who retired at the end of the 2016-17 campaign following 24 years as a Roma striker, watched from the stands in his new role as a director.

In-demand striker Andrea Belotti was denied a second-half winner by the video assistant referee as Torino had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Bologna.

Federico Di Francesco fired the Rossoblu ahead before Adem Ljajic replied thanks largely to a howler from home goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

Valter Birsa's sumptuous strike clinched Chievo the points from a 2-1 success at Udinese, where Cyril Thereau had responded to Roberto Inglese's opener.

Elsewhere, Sassuolo hosted Genoa in a goalless draw.

On Saturday, Juventus launched their bid for a seventh successive Serie A title with a routine 3-0 home win over Cagliari.

Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain all found the net in a comfortable victory, although Diego Farias missed a penalty for the visitors.

Napoli coasted to a 3-1 opening-weekend win at Verona, hitting their Serie A stride with precious little fuss or trouble on the road.

Arkaduisz Milik and Faouzi Ghoulam found the net as Napoli eased to victory, with Samuel Souprayen's own goal setting the visitors on course.

Giampolo Pazzini converted a late penalty for Verona after Napoli's Elseid Hysaj was sent off, but the hosts still eased to the win.

Borussia Monchengladbach kicked off their new Bundesliga campaign with a 1-0 home win over rivals Cologne thanks to Nico Elvedi's 49th-minute strike.

The hosts started brightly at Borussia-Park with Thorgan Hazard, Raffael and Lars Stindl all going close early on, although Jhon Cordoba also threatened for the visitors on two occasions before the break.

However, Borussia finished the half strongly with Elvedi and Hazard both passing up late chances.

They eventually took the lead four minutes into the second half when Elvedi fired home from inside the penalty area, and Raffael might have doubled their advantage six minutes later, but went agonisingly wide.

Cologne responded with Leonardo Bittencourt and Cordoba going close in quick succession, but Stindl forced Timo Horn to make a 71st-minute save with the game approaching a tense conclusion.

Milos Jojic might have snatched an equaliser 14 minutes from time, but there proved to be no way back for the visitors.

In the day's early match, Sebastien Haller struck the crossbar as Eintracht Frankfurt came close to victory at Freiburg.

The striker hit the woodwork with a right-foot shot 36 minutes into a game of few clear-cut chances which ultimately ended 0-0.

Defender Simon Falette had earlier headed just wide for the visitors, although Lukas Hradecky had to save from Freiburg's Tim Kleindienst on the stroke of half-time.

Marc-Oliver Kempf went close for the home side four minutes after the restart and Kevin-Prince Boateng almost broke the deadlock at the other end with 21 minutes remaining, but there was no separating the teams.

On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund coasted past Wolfsburg 3-0 to hand new boss Pierre Bosz the perfect start to managerial life in the Bundesliga.

The visitors kick-started their new campaign in style, with Christian Pulisic, Marc Bartra and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all on target in a straightforward victory.

Former Ajax manager Bosz was handed the ideal start when his men secured a 2-0 lead at the break, and Dortmund were never troubled in closing out their win.

Hoffenheim left it late but edged out Werder Bremen 1-0, thanks to substitute Andrej Kramaric's 84th-minute winner.

Former Leicester star Kramaric's deflected effort swiped the points, with boss Julian Nagelsmann's late double switch, throwing on Serge Gnabry too, paying dividend.

Kerem Demirbay wasted two fine chances for Hoffenheim, and just when those misses looked likely to be punished, up popped Kramaric with the winner.

Australia striker Mathew Leckie struck twice on his league debut as Hertha Berlin saw off Stuttgart 2-0, with the former Ingoldstadt man finding the net twice after the break to seal the win.

Leckie opened the scoring less than a minute into the second half, cutting in from the right before firing home. And wen he swept home a cross just past the hour, he completed a memorable, match-winning debut.

Nicolai Muller struck the winning goal in just the eighth minute as Hamburg edged out Augsburg 1-0. But the 29-year-old forward injured himself in his celebration and was replaced after 15 minutes with a knee injury.

Muller fell off balance when colliding with the corner flag during his customary spinning goal celebration, twisting a knee in the process and ending his day's exploits prematurely.

Hannover toasted their return to the top flight with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Mainz.

Martin Harnik fired home to ensure the visitors sneaked away with all three points, after Mainz had squandered several good first-half chances.

Harnik's close-range strike on 73 minutes settled the affair, with the forward quickly back into his stride after netting 17 times in Bundesliga 2 last term.

Nabil Bentaleb's penalty and a cool finish from Yevhen Konoplyanka handed Schalke a 2-0 home win over Leipzig.

New coach Domenico Tedesco enjoyed a victory in his maiden Bundesliga tie in charge of Schalke, with the hosts able to control the majority of the contest.

Last season's Bundesliga runners-up Leipzig were unable to pick up where they left off last term, with ex-Spurs man Bentaleb showing no mercy from the spot to hand his side the lead just before the break.

And when Amine Harit laid on a neat through-ball midway through the second half, Konoplyanka did the rest, curling home in style to seal the victory.

Debut goals from Niklas Sule and Corentin Tolisso helped Bayern Munich get the defence of their Bundesliga title off to a winning 3-1 start on Friday night in monsoon conditions against Bayer Leverkusen.

Sule headed home the opening goal after only nine minutes at the Allianz Arena, meeting a free-kick from his fellow signing from Hoffenheim, Sebastian Rudy.

Tolisso, the big-money arrival from Lyon, also netted with a header on his league debut to double the lead after only 18 minutes.

There was another first early in the second half as the video assistant referee was called into action for the first time in the Bundesliga, awarding a penalty to Bayern for a foul on Robert Lewandowski which the Pole converted.

Swirling wind and driving rain meant conditions were anything but ideal for much of the game, but Leverkusen could have no complaints.

Despite a fine consolation goal from Admir Mehmedi in the 65th minute and a succession of second-half chances, they never seriously looked like mounting a comeback.

Neymar marked his home debut with two goals as Paris St Germain came from behind to beat Toulouse 6-2 at the Parc des Princes to go top of Ligue 1.

The Brazilian forward made it three goals in two games for his new club following his world record £200.6million arrival from Barcelona - after opening his account in last week's win at Guingamp - but it was another debutant who threatened to steal the headlines as Max Gradel gave the visitors a surprise lead.

After equalising in the 31st minute, Neymar set up Adrien Rabiot to score four minutes later to send his team into the interval in front.

Marco Verratti was sent off midway through the second half but the hosts lost none of their momentum and Edinson Cavani emphatically dispatched a penalty - won by Neymar - to give PSG some daylight.

However, Toulouse refused to go down without a fight and Christopher Jullien reduced the deficit after 78 minutes with a header that deflected into the net off Thiago Silva.

Substitute Javier Pastore quickly restored the two-goal cushion with a lovely curling effort from just outside the box before Layvin Kurzawa extended the lead in the 84th minute with a superb volley from a driven cross by Neymar, who completed the scoring in time added on.

Caen registered their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Lille.

The Normandy club had begun the campaign with back-to-back 1-0 defeats but Damien Da Silva's early header and a strike by Ivan Santini midway through the second half saw them get off the mark at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Marseille remain unbeaten in six matches in all competitions this season but had to settle for a point at home to Angers as it finished 1-1 at the Stade Velodrome.

Clinton N'Jie put the hosts ahead after 17 minutes with his third league goal of the campaign with a tidy finish from Morgan Sanson's cross but Karl Toko Ekambi equalised in the 70th minute with a shot from outside the area.

Marseille finished the game with 10 men after Lucas Ocampos was shown a straight red card deep into injury time following a high challenge on Romain Thomas.

On Saturday, St Etienne continued their 100 per cent start with a 3-0 win over struggling Amiens at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Midfielder Jonathan Bamba put the hosts ahead in the 13th minute from the penalty spot after Lois Diony had been tripped by Amiens defender Brighton Labeau.

The referee awarded a second penalty four minutes before the break when Diony was caught as he attempted to round goalkeeper Regis Gurtner, and this time Bryan Dabo converted from 12 yards.

Dabo knocked in a third for St Etienne in the 67th minutes from 20 yards when the ball broke to him off a sliding challenge from the Amiens keeper after Romain Hamouma had sprinted clear.

A third straight defeat leaves Amiens bottom with no points or goals, having conceded seven.

Earlier, Malcom's dramatic stoppage-time equaliser gave Bordeaux a 3-3 draw at Lyon, who saw midfielder Sergi Darder sent off in the first half as their perfect start to the new season came to an end.

Nabil Fekir put the hosts ahead with a spectacular long-range effort after 10 minutes from just inside the Bordeaux half.

Lyon doubled their lead after 23 minutes through defender Kenny Tete after a free-kick through the six-yard box.

However, midfielder Darder then collected two quick cautions, the second yellow card followed by a red after 36 minutes after catching Bordeaux captain Jeremy Toulalan with a high boot.

Bordeaux pulled a goal back just before half-time through Brazilian forward Malcom with a deflected follow-up after his 20-yard free-kick hit the wall.

Lyon, also looking to keep pace with champions Monaco who beat Metz on Friday night, thought they had wrapped up victory with 15 minutes left when Bertrand Traore curled in a 25-yard free-kick.

However, Danish midfielder Lukas Lerager set up a grandstand finish when he slotted home at the back post with two minutes left and Malcom then slammed home another long-range effort into the top corner.

Elsewhere, there was also late drama at Roazhon Park where a stoppage-time penalty from Julio Tavares earned Dijon a 2-2 draw with Rennes.

A goal in each half from Congo forward Firmin Ndombe Mubele - his second floating in over the goalkeeper from out wide on the left - had put the hosts in control.

Korean Kwon Chang-hoon, though, reduced the deficit in the 51st minutes with a close-range header and the visitors earned a point when Rennes defender Edson Mexer scythed down Naim Sliti and Tavares cracked the penalty into the top corner.

Nice recorded their first win after beating Guingamp with goals either side of half-time from Alessane Plea and Remi Walter.

Montpellier and Strasbourg drew 1-1 at Stade de la Mosson.

Idriss Saadi put the visitors ahead midway through the first half, but defender Daniel Congre equalised from a corner with 18 minutes to go.

Nantes survived the sending off of forward Chidozie Awaziem after only 34 minutes to pick up a first win with a 1-0 victory at Troyes after a late goal from Argentine forward Emiliano Sala.

On Friday night, Monaco set a new Ligue 1 record as a 1-0 win at Metz made them the first team to win 15 consecutive matches in the French top flight.

They made light of the absence of Paris St Germain target Kylian Mbappe, who was left out, with fellow striker Radamel Falcao grabbing the only goal of the game in the 78th minute.

Falcao struck after being fed by an exquisite chip over the Metz backline by substitute Rachid Ghezzal. The left-footed pass forward was carefully controlled by Falcao who ran wide of Metz goalkeeper Thomas Didillon and crashed the ball into the net from close range.

The 15th straight win saw Monaco pass Bordeaux to earn their place in the record books. Bordeaux achieved their 14-in-a-row feat in 2009, spanning the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

Jorrit Hendrix helped to cement a commanding victory as PSV Eindhoven hit NAC Breda for four.

The midfielder struck three minutes from time to complete a 4-1 away win, which came courtesy of a powerful second-half display.

Striker Steven Bergwijn set the ball rolling with just 17 minutes gone, but Thierry Ambrose levelled from the penalty spot before the break.

However, skipper Marco van Ginkel's header on the hour restored the lead before Hirving Lozano and Hendrix made sure.

Jean-Paul Boetius' first-half goal was enough to maintain reigning champions Feyenoord's perfect start to the season as they ran out 1-0 winners at Excelsior.

The 23-year frontman struck after just 18 minutes to ensure they emerged with three more points to go with those they took from FC Twente last Sunday.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar set Ajax on their way to a first league victory of the season as the men from Amsterdam bounced back from last weekend's defeat at Heracles with a 3-1 win over Groningen.

Huntelaar opened the scoring with 38 minutes gone and midfielder Hakim Ziyech doubled the advantage three minutes after half-time with his 50th league strike.

FC Utrecht flew out of the blocks to condemn Willem II to a 2-0 defeat before they had even got their second wind.

The action came early too at the Sparta Stadion as Sparta Rotterdam came from behind to claim a draw against Zwolle.

Moroccan striker Youness Mokhtar put the visitors ahead with just 13 minutes played, but his effort was cancelled out within 10 minutes as Robert Muhren snatched a point for the home side.

Eredivisie newcomers Venlo maintained their perfect start to the campaign with a 2-1 win at FC Twente.

AZ Alkmaar shook off last weekend's defeat to PSV Eindhoven with a 2-0 win over 10-man Den Haag, who had defender Wilfried Kanon sent off after just 28 minutes following two early cautions.

Kanon was shown a red for a pull back on Ron Vlaar, which resulted in a penalty and Wout Weghorst promptly gave AZ the lead.

Teenage midfielder Guus Til ended the match as a contest with 20 minutes left when he headed in from a corner.

At the Abe Lenstra Stadion, Nemanja Mihajlovic netted a stoppage-time equaliser to earn Heerenveen a 1-1 draw against Heracles Almelo.

The visitors looked like to be heading for a second consecutive Eredivisie win after defender Robin Propper had put them ahead from a corner in added time at the end of the first half.

However, with the 90 minutes up, Mihajlovic nodded into the bottom corner as Heerenveen retained their unbeaten start and left Heracles two points off the top.

On Friday, Vitesse made it maximum points from two Eredivisie games with a 3-1 victory at Roda JC.

Tim Matavz, Thomas Bruns and Guram Kashia were on target for Vitesse, with Roda's only reply through Simon Gustafson coming from the penalty spot.
