Christian Eriksen is odds-on to make a move to Italy with Inter Milan as his time at Tottenham looks to be coming to an end.
The 27-year-old’s contract at Spurs expires in the summer and this transfer window will settle his future once and for all after months of speculation.
Jose Mourinho appears to have been unsuccessful in trying to persuade Eriksen to sign a new contract at Spurs and it seems now his future lies elsewhere, the only real question to answer now is where and when.
Eriksen can sign a pre-contract agreement with a club in Europe this January, to then join them for free in the summer, but Mourinho is unlikely to want a player who has signed for another team to be playing for him in the second half of the season.
Manchester United are favourites from the Premier League but Daniel Levy and Spurs would prefer a club from Europe to sign Eriksen, and would also obviously prefer to recoup a fee for the talented Denmark international.
Inter Milan have popped up as favourites to sign Eriksen with reports that they were ready to pay £20m to fend off Manchester United and pick up the player during January –not wanting to wait until the summer for their man.
Christien Eriksen: To sign for before 3rd February 2020 (odds via Sky Bet)
- Inter Milan - 4/5
- Manchester United - 6/1
- Real Madrid - 8/1
- Juventus - 16/1
- Atletico Madrid - 20/1
- PSG - 20/1
United will not be making a bid to spend cash on a player they could get for free in the summer, so Eriksen could be picked up in January if a team is willing to spend. Inter are the only team so far willing to do so.
For their part, Spurs are not likely to be splashing much cash in January according to Mourinho, so anything they could get for Eriksen would be a bonus to put towards the possible signing of a striker to step in for the injured Harry Kane.
