Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke frustrated at transfer progress

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke admitted his summer recruitment work is proving to be a frustrating business.

The Rugby Park boss has so far only managed to secure Bournemouth forward Mikael Ndjoli on a six-month loan deal.

But he is desperate to add further signings before the Ladbrokes Premiership season starts.

Clarke has previously stated he might have to leave it late as he waits for clubs south of the border to finalise their squads before picking up the best of the bargain buys who are made surplus to requirements.

But so far it has proved to be anything but straight forward.

"It's fluid, it's ongoing," said Clarke on his transfer dealings. "We're speaking all the time to agents, trying to gauge the market, find out who is available on loan and who is available for nothing, as that is the market we're working in.

"We're working the market hard, although nothing has really falling for us at the moment - but we'll keep looking."

There were positive signs, though, as Ndjoli grabbed his first Killie goal during Saturday's 4-2 Betfred Cup win over Dumbarton.

The pacey wideman buried a leveller just after half-time and showed some nice touches during the C&G Stadium clash.

"It was nice for Mikael to get off the mark on Saturday," said Clarke, whose side required a late hat-trick from substitute Kris Boyd as they avoided an embarrassing slip-up against the Ladbrokes League One side.

"The pitch was a little bit sticky for guys like him who like to dribble with the ball. You saw two or three times the dribblers getting the ball stuck under their feet.

"But Mikael is a young boy and we need to give him time to develop.

"Bournemouth have sent him up here and we're going to help him improve and as he develops, I think as you saw, he can make a good contribution to our team."
