Bournemouth v Burnley: Team news

Bournemouth expect to have midfielder Dan Gosling back in contention again following a calf problem for the Premier League match against Burnley.

Ryan Fraser will be monitored on a tight Achilles, but striker Benik Afobe is still sidelined by a hamstring strain.

On-loan Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is out for the season after suffering a fractured leg, while Andrew Surman, forward Callum Wilson, goalkeeper Adam Federici and defender Rhoys Wiggins all continue their recovery from knee injuries.

Defender Michael Keane is in contention to return for Burnley.

The England international, who was an ever-present in the Premier League this season until missing last week's draw with West Brom due to a knock, has returned to training and is being monitored by boss Sean Dyche.

Fellow centre-back Ben Mee is unlikely to make his comeback from a shin problem, while winger George Boyd could return following a knee injury.

Bournemouth v Burnley: Manager quotes

Eddie Howe (Bournemouth)

On Jack Wilshere: "Jack did part of his rehab here, he has now gone back to Arsenal, but it was great to see him for the week he was with us.

"It was really nice to be able to speak to him and also for him to see all the players again because after the Tottenham game he suffered the injury and the players had not seen him (since).

"It was really nice to be able to be able to spend time with him, to talk to him and wish him well for the future."

Asked if there would be any chance to bring Wilshere back at Bournemouth next season, Howe replied: "No, I think that is going to be very difficult for us.

"When we signed him on loan, and I have said this many times, the plan was for him to stay for a season and then to go back to Arsenal to evaluate his future."

On the rest of the season: "We will try and go as strong as we can, to finish as high up the league as we can, so there is a big incentive for us, for a whole host of reasons.

"We try and improve every year, that has been our big way of working really, trying to develop players to improve the team and step by step we have been able to do that

"This year the objective was to do the same, to improve on the 42 points and 16th (place) which we had achieved the season before."Now we have got two games left to try to do that."

On Burnley: "They have improved on the strong Championship side they had from last season, which is not easy to do.

"They have the die-hard spirit that we have seen and we found that out in the away game this season, so it will be tough test for us again on Saturday.

"They got back up and they have been able to show their abilities this season as we have seen, so you have to be very impressed by that."

Sean Dyche (Burnley)

On this season: "I think the key marker for me, without judging everyone else, is that it was only the first game of the season when we were in the bottom three," he told the club website.

"That's a fantastic marker for a side that was given no chance."I don't want to over-egg that because it was brought out a lot last weekend, but it's a fact.

"No-one gave us any chance at all of being in the Premier League.

"So to have only been in there once - after the first game of the season, which we all know can go for or against you - I think is pretty impressive, to end up where we are and still looking to try and win another couple of games.

"Historically we have a strong way of finishing seasons and we want to finish this season strong as well."

On Eddie Howe: "I think Eddie has done a fantastic job.

"His successes of late have been amazing, but I look back when he first was there and I think that was an even bigger success, strangely.

"When you look at the situation they were in when he was first there, and to have the club where it is now, I think it is fantastic."

On Michael Keane and Ben Mee: "Keano has had a day on the grass with us.

"We will see how he reacts to that tomorrow.

"Ben Mee might be around but I think it is unlikely. He is still settling down with the injury."

Bournemouth v Burnley: Our prediction

1pt over 3.5 goals in Bournemouth v Burnley at 39/19 – both safe from the drop and another lively encounter on the cards at the Vitality

Our David John writes... Burnley came out on top 3-2 at Turf Moor when the pair met in December and with both arriving on the back of 2-2 draws, you have to wonder whether this is going to be another busy afternoon for the goalkeepers.

It should be a pleasant atmosphere all round on the south coast too as both are now safe from the drop - the Cherries mathematically with Burnley unlikely to be troubled due to their vastly superior goal difference over Hull City.

Burnley nudged themselves onto 40 points after an entertaining stalemate with West Brom as they showed their customary spirit to fight back from a goal down and manager Sean Dyche was full of praise for his side’s achievements this season.

He was without defensive stalwarts Ben Mee and Michael Keane against the Baggies and their absence was exposed by a physical rival but the hope is they will be able to return here with Keane looking to have the best chance of a place in the starting XI.

To that end, Dyche may well need all hands to the pump against the hosts who have a collection of forward players at the top of their game currently while one defeat in five at the Vitality Stadium (to Chelsea) highlights a good measure of confidence on home turf.

That statement can be applied to the visitors as well after they finally got over the line away from home with a convincing display at Crystal Palace.

They are 3/1 chances to double their tally on the road in rapid-fire time and they look competitive here but I would just prefer to side with the goals flowing at regular intervals.

Prediction: Bournemouth 3-3 Burnley

Bournemouth v Burnley: Opta facts

Bournemouth have lost only one of their last five home league games against the Clarets (W2 D2), a 1-0 defeat in the third tier in February 2000; Eddie Howe featured for the Cherries in that game, and was substituted for current assistant manager Jason Tindall.

Burnley are unbeaten in their last seven games against Bournemouth in all competitions (W4 D3) since a 5-0 defeat in November 1998.

This will be only the second Premier League meeting between the teams, with the other being a 3-2 win for Burnley at Turf Moor last December.

Only Romelu Lukaku (14) and Harry Kane (13) have scored more goals than Josh King in 2017 in the Premier League (12).

Stephen Ward has found the net in his last two league matches against the Cherries, doing so for Brighton in January 2014 and Burnley in the reverse fixture this season.

Just seven of Burnley’s 40 points this season have been collected in away fixtures, the lowest proportion by a Premier League side this season (17.5%).

However, the Clarets could win successive Premier League away games for the second time ever (also final two away games of 2014/15).

The Cherries have kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 Premier League games at the Vitality Stadium, conceding at least two goals in the other eight games (19 in total).

Sam Vokes has scored three times in his last three Premier League games, after nine without finding the net.

Bournemouth have scored four Premier League own-goals in 2017 after just one in their previous 57 games in the competition.

Bournemouth are given a 2/1 chance of finishing in the top half, while Burnley are up against odds of 9/1.
