West Brom boss Slaven Blilic is confident of signing former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic – and the deal could even be completed on Friday.
The 36-year old, who can play at full-back or centre-back, is a free agent after leaving Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in the summer.
Ivanovic won nine major trophies during a decade-long spell at Stamford Bridge, including three Premier League titles and the Champions League.
The Serbia international is undergoing a medical at the Hawthorns before he is expected to sign a one-year contract.
“Hopefully it will be done later today," said Bilic, speaking at Friday's press conference ahead of Albion's Premier League opener against Leicester on Sunday.
"He ticks all the boxes for us. First of all he will add quality, also his experience on the pitch and off the pitch. So it is not only him, it is him plus the influence he will have on not just defenders but the whole team around him.
“That’s why we targeted him as one of our prime targets.”
