Hugo Palmer is looking forward to the new turf Flat season and he has three horses to follow for the campaign.
Hugo Palmer sent out a personal best 87 winners in the UK last season - and is looking forward to trying to better that the figure in the months ahead.
“To send out 87 domestic winners and one apiece in France and Ireland was great, it would have been lovely to maybe have eleven more, but the horses ran consistently all year which was great," he said.
"When you have horses like Covert Love and Galileo Gold one year after the other you almost feel perhaps a little bit of complacency, those Group One horses are so special, so rare and I feel incredibly privileged to have had them. I just keep looking out for the next ones now!
"I think every trainer always wants another good one or another couple of horses, but we’ve got over one hundred horses for the 2019 season which is great. We have some really lovely two-year olds and I’m excited about the three-year olds going forwards as well."
Three to follow
Classic hope
The 2,000 Guineas-winning trainer could be back for another shot at the Newmarket Classic with the unbeaten SET PIECE. The Khaild Abdullah-owned colt defied a penalty when winning at Newcastle and could be heading for a Classic trial.
"Set Piece has been entered in the English, French and German Guineas. He’s got quite a lot of hurdles to jump before then, but he’s only raced twice and hasn’t been beaten so he’s done everything we have asked him to do so we will see where we get to with him."
Melbourne Cup Dreams
Palmer has got considerably more older horses than ever before, totalling 25, and amongst them is MOOTASADIR, an imposing son of Dansili.
“Mootasadir won a Group Three for us at the end of last year. I think the dream is that he could be a Melbourne Cup horse by the end of the year. I think he will stay; he won his Group Three over a mile and a half, so two miles would be well within his comforts.”
The Dark Horse
Another horse who is exciting Palmer is RED OCTOBER who broke his maiden at Chelmsford in October.
“He worked for the first time ahead of the season and went very nicely, he’s a beautifully bred horse who is a half-brother to Endless Times of Godolphin who won the Lillie Langtry. He’s already won a race at two and is a half-brother to a winner over a mile and six, so he could be a lovely stayer. Who knows, he could be a Melbourne Cup horse as well!”
