Rory Delargy and David Massey combine for today's preview and they've got three selections across two races at Market Rasen.
Racing betting tips: Tuesday February 17
1pt win Trinity Street in the 14:00 Market Rasen at 14/1 (Bet365, min 12/1)
1pt win Getawhisky in the 14:00 Market Rasen at 15/2 (General, min 13/2)
0.5pt e.w. Rosie Baloo in the 15:02 Market Rasen at 8/1 (1,2,3,4 general, take no lower)
2:00 Market Rasen – Mares' National Hunt Novices' Hurdle 2m105y
This is a cracking contest for a Tuesday at Market Rasen and wouldn’t look out of place on a weekend TV card. Charisma Cat arguably sets the standard and is clearly a tough mare, but she is not yet the most fluent of jumpers and made errors in the straight when beating Trinity Street at Chepstow last time, and that race might have been very close indeed had the runner-up not been intimidated by the winner at the penultimate flight. Trinity Street was keeping on well at the time, but looked like she might run out of room approaching the hurdle and had to be taken back and switched. It’s possible that what happened was her own fault, but I’m inclined to view her wayward path as greenness rather than anything more sinister, and it was a big improvement on her hurdles debut at Hexham where she looked pretty clueless. She’s weighted to gain revenge on Charisma Cat here if she progresses again as expected, but there are others to consider in a deep race.
Khrisma has been put in as favourite and should have won last time at Huntingdon, but lost out by a narrow margin to the reopposing Watamu after losing ground and momentum at the last hurdle. Both are capable of better, but Khrisma looks a little short in the early betting given she has a quirk or two and her stable has a surprisingly modest record here. Getawhisky looks the biggest threat, though, having won cosily at Windsor last time. Dan Skelton’s mare was making up for a fall at Ascot and looks to be progressing after taking a few runs to find her feet. She has the scope to progress again and is a good alternative to the selection.
3:02 Market Rasen – Class 4 Mares’ Handicap Hurdle 2m4f139y
Rosie Baloo hails from a good jumping family and has developed into a fairly useful hurdler this winter, bettering several creditable efforts in maidens when winning a mares’ novice at Sedgefield last time. The daughter of Jack Hobbs is a straightforward ride who jumps soundly and she looks capable of progressing further now switched to handicaps. She found plenty to beat the well-regarded Zoubida at Sedgefield with the pair a long way clear, and I think the handicapper has erred on the side of leniency with her opening mark. This will be her biggest test but her sound jumping and positive run style are ideal for Market Rasen and I’d expect her to go very close in the circumstances.
