Rory Delargy has Saturday's Punting Pointers including two selections on tonight's card at Chepstow.
Racing betting tips: Saturday June 27
1pt win Act of Violence in the 20:05 Chepstow at 7/4 (Bet365) - no lower
1pt win Sioux Warrior in the 20:35 Chepstow at 4/1 (General) – min 7/2
20:05 Chepstow – Class 6 (0-55) Handicap 5f16y
The last three horses to run for Tony Carroll having joined from other yards have all won, so ACT OF VIOLENCE must be of significant interest having left David Loughnane, especially as the recent Windsor winner Beelzebub had made the same move. Like Beelzebub, Act of Violence arrives after a break having been below form on his most recent starts, but he’s well handicapped on his best form having scored off a mark of 66 at Ripon in 2024 when with Tim Easterby.
The fact that Act of Violence has won at Ripon is also a positive in terms of course topography, with both Ripon and Chepstow being tracks where the turf is ridged in the straight, creating an undulating surface that many horses, especially long striders, fail to handle. Act Of Violence didn’t get home after racing too freely at Wolverhampton last time and the drop back to sprinting is likely to suit here, and he’s taken to outclass his rivals.
20:35 Chepstow – Class 6 (0-55) Handicap 6f16y
SIOUX WARRIOR looks the pick in the low-grade affair having been placed on his last two starts at Wolverhampton and Bath, most recently behind subsequent winner Neptune Legend. That form looks solid for this lowly level and there are two reasons to expect some improvement today. That was Sioux Warrior’s first run for two months and he shaped as if it might bring him on , but more importantly he now wears cheekpieces, and Adrian Wintle’s use of the headgear is shrewd.
Backing Wintle’s horses sporting cheekpieces for the first time is profitable, with a 25% strike-rate leading to a profit of £90 to a tenner stake at SP, but that profit improves markedly when backing only the qualifiers at Chepstow. Of those, both have won at odds of 4/1 and 11/1 respectably and that makes Sioux Warrior look a solid bet in a race that won’t take a great deal of winning.
