It’s Randox Ulster National Day and there are some competitive races for Sky Bet customers to get their teeth into.
One of the best backed horses of the day with Vinnie Is Busy for Charles Byrnes looking to get back to winning ways after finishing 4th last time out. The support for the horse looks significant as he has been backed into 11/8 from 9/4.
The second race on the card has been dominated by the front three in the market who have been backed to the exclusion of everything else in the race. The Very Man (11/8) looks set to be the horse that will go off favourite, although if Charles Brynes’ horse obliges in the first it would be no surprise to see momentum in the market for his runner Wajaaha (9/4).
The next race on the card is the first of the extra place races with Sky Bet paying 5 instead of 3 as long as 14 or more runners take part. The each way horse has been Benefit North (9/1 from 14/1) for the Colin McBratney yard. The Denis O’Regan ridden horse was just getting into contention last time out before falling and is clearly expected to run well this afternoon.
Next up is the Ulster Grand National which looks a good race and is once again an extra place race with 5 instead of 3 as long as 14 or more run.. The money horse has been the Gavin Cromwell trained Jimmil (5/1 from 7/1). With the yard in good form it’s no surprise to see this last time out winner being supported. At slightly bigger prices General Principle has been backed at double figure odds.
The last of the extra place races (same terms as the previous two races) has been a lively betting heat with one horse in particular proving popular. The horse in question is Call Of The Loon (10/1 from 16/1). The movers last two runs are hardly inspiring, being beaten over 150 lenghts, but clearly his supporters feel today could be a going day.
One horse to mention in the maiden hunter chase is Handy Headon (13/2) who has been well supported although the favourite On The Sod (7/4) remains rock solid in the market.
The last race on the card appears a penalty kick for Ballyadam and is now around 1/7 to win for it’s Cheveley Park owners.
