Racing betting tips: Wednesday August 12
0.5pts e.w Furrst Lady in the 15:15 Beverley at 125/1 (Bet365 - 1/5 1,2,3,4, min 100/1)
0.5pts e.w Style Of Life in the 15:45 Beverley at 20/1 (Bet365 & Sky Bet - 1/5 1,2,3,4 min 16/1)
1pt e.w Qila in the 16:45 Beverley at 11/2 (Bet365 - 1/5 1,2,3,4 - min 5/1)
A very weak affair, even for a 0-55, and in some ways the most interesting one in the field is the well-related Furrst Lady, who has shown precisely nothing in five starts for Ruth Carr (it’s actually six, but she refused on her debut, hardly the most auspicious of starts) but now sets out for Roger Fell, so good at turning others castoffs around (2-9 past year, 7-41 last two years, and for good level stakes profits) and if you think even this might be a step too far, given the seeming total lack of ability, I point you towards exhibit A, m’lud, A Lady Forever, who had shown a similar lack of ability in four starts for Robyn Brisland back in 2022 before Fell took over and won first time up with it, at 20-1, and that after a massive absence too.
She’s actually rated a whopping 32 and races from 13lb out of the handicap here but that’s neither here nor there in this case, this is all about whether Fell can make her more tractable in her races and then we’ll see what ability she’s actually got, if any at all. Three-figure quotes are being bandied around this morning, and that must be worth a small pop.
A tricky little handicap this, but a couple are worth a mention, at least.
Bell Shot won this last year (well backed) and is well enough handicapped again to be given a chance of retaining his crown. He has been in fair form this summer, running well without threatening, but a drop back to six furlongs at Pontefract last time wouldn’t have suited (still ran well) and this looks a much more suitable test. There’s a change of headgear again, something that has worked in the past, and his chance is obvious enough.
Style Of Life is less obvious after a down-the-field run at York last time, her first for ten months, something that suggests she might have had a setback in the meantime. Twice a winner last year, trip and track will both suit and the tongue-tie returns today, something that was missing at York. No surprise if she bounced back to form today either.
16:45 Beverley
Should be some pace on here, with Angel Numbers, Lamlash Bay and Hanney Girl all likely to go forward, and that leads us to think Qila, who was held up well off the pace at Thirsk last week before coming through late to claim third, should get this run to suit.
He’s twice had wind surgery already so you have to bear that in mind, but it was a promising effort at Thirsk, the tongue-tie seemingly helping him too, and if he can build on that today, then under conditions that ought to suit, he has every chance of taking another step forward.
