Plan takes shape for Harry Whittington trained Anemoi

Harry Whittington is thinking of stepping his unbeaten novice hurdler Anemoi up in distance at Cheltenham on New Year's Day.

The four-year-old lowered the colours of the highly-regarded Pym at Ascot, before landing the odds with the minimum of fuss at Doncaster last time out.

Those two races were around two miles and his trainer is now looking to put him in a Listed contest over two and a half miles.

Whittington has been debating stepping him up in class and trip - but quite where that will be is not clear as yet, with options at Newbury, Kempton and Cheltenham under consideration.

"We're still thinking about it. We're probably likely to go for a Listed novice two-and-a-half mile at Cheltenham on New Year's Day," said Whittington.

"There are other races, a class two at Kempton and I think he might get an entry in the Challow Hurdle. That wouldn't be Plan A, though. We just want to do what is right by the horse.

"I think he's versatile with regards to the ground, but he wouldn't want it bottomless. I think we might go up in trip, but not too much in class, next."
