Latest news of inspections and abandonments

Latest news of inspections and abandonments with Catterick's Flat meeting on Wednesday the latest to fall foul of the weather.

Catterick's Flat meeting on Wednesday has become yet another casualty of the recent deluge of rainfall.

Clerk of the course Fiona Needham was left to face up to the inevitable following a course inspection at 1pm on Tuesday.

Catterick sustained 25 millimetres of rainfall on Monday which left the course waterlogged in places.

The other domestic meetings on Wednesday are on the all-weather tracks at Kempton, Lingfield and Southwell.

Tuesday afternoon's meeting at Fairyhouse was also abandoned because of a waterlogged track.

The first two days of the Irish Grand National fixture went ahead as planned, but heavy overnight rain forced an early end to the Easter festival at the County Meath circuit.

A statement issued by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board read: "Following a course inspection at Fairyhouse this morning, the course was found to be unfit for racing following 10 millimetres of rain overnight."

Only Lingfield's all-weather Flat meeting survived on Tuesday, as the domestic fixtures at Wincanton and Pontefract had already been abandoned.

Musselburgh's Flat fixture on Thursday has already been called off.

The Scottish venue was hit by 22mm of rain within 24 hours and further heavy showers have also been forecast.

Wetherby is due to stage a jumps fixture on Friday but that meeting is subject to an 11am inspection on Wednesday.

A tweet issued by the course executive read: "Following 45mm rainfall between Friday morning and Monday evening, it has left areas of flooding in the back straight and we will therefore be holding an inspection of the course at 11am on Wednesday to assess conditions and prospects ahead of Friday's race meeting."

It could be bad news at Wexford on Friday, too, as the course is partially waterlogged.

An inspection has been called at 2pm on Wednesday to determine whether or not the National Hunt card will go ahead.
