At first glance this appears a trappy looking 5f Apprentice Handicap but with further investigation there are a number who can be ruled out with some confidence leaving a manageable shortlist. The obvious starting point is Swendab who comes here in great form having won 3 of his last 4 races but all of those have been at Wolverhampton and he is yet to get his head in front at the track in four attempts. Add in the fact that he is a 10-year-old, he is worth taking on tonight. Fast Act is of interest running off 69, 12lb below his last win which came over the course and distance but he has been dropped for a reason as that was ten races ago. Joseph Tuite’s six-year-old Zipedeedodah can go well for talented Edward Greatrex. He is racing off 4lb below his last winning mark, is a seven time winner at the minimum trip and has been given a chance at this level by the handicapper. He rates the danger to the selection which is Amy Murphy’s five-year-old ENTERTAINING BEN. He is racing off a 5lb higher mark than his last successful visit here in November but won with authority that day and from a similar draw this prominent racer can make them all go again at rewarding odds. It is hoped that there is still some more improvement to come and he will not lack from the saddle under the impressive Nicola Currie.

This 1m2f Handicap only has the five runners but throws up a decent betting proposition in my opinion. On paper at least it is fairly easy to discount Daisy Bere and Indigo Princess but the same cannot be said for Coiltte Cailin. Daniel Loughane’s eight-year-old is a seven times winner, including a win from four tries at the track and is tempting at the odds. The favourite Titan Goddess is in great form having won three of her last four races but is 0-4 at the trip and makes the market for my selection SPINNING MELODY. Simon Crisford’s four-year-old filly has only had three runs compared to one hundred and twenty one from the other four runners! Add that untapped potential to the fact that she won on debut here in October in good style, has been freshened up with a 30-day break and will relish the drop back in trip, she is a confident selection.
