David Massey is back with three bets across today's meetings.
Racing betting tips: Monday April 27
1pt win Endofastorm in the 14:00 Bath at 9/1 (General, min 8/1)
0.5pts e.w Alazwar in the 17:30 Wolverampton at 9/2 (General - 1/5 1,2,3,4, take no lower)
0.5pts e.w Newfangled in the 18:30 at 7/1 (General - 1/5 1,2,3,4. take no lower)
Course form counts for plenty at Bath, and while she’s just a modest performer, Endofastorm scores highly for his affinity for the track, with two of her four career wins coming on good or faster ground here, including when making all over 1m5f here last September. Joe Ponting’s mare hasn’t been at her best in a light campaign this year, but has already dropped below her last winning mark, and has the assistance of the underrated Milly Wonnacott as she returns to her favoured venue with pretty much everything lined up for an improved performance. Aside from here, there doesn’t seem to be much early pace in evidence and she should go well if Wonnacott can poach an easy lead.
17:30 Wolverhampton - Class 6 (0-60) Amateur Riders’ Handicap 1m104y
Alazwar might be the answer to this tricky puzzle. Winner of both tries over course and distance, he normally races over a bit further these days but is clearly effective at this trip when there’s some pace on, and these amateur races don’t tend to be run at a dawdle, which aids his cause
He looked to be coming back to form when second to No Knee Never at Lingfield a week ago, doing his best work late, and Brodie Hampson, always a positive in these races, seems to get on well with him. He’s drawn to take a handy position, especially with little pace up his inside, and we fancy him to turn the tables with No Knee Never today.
Stall 9 could have been something of an issue for Newfangled if there were front runners on her inside, but I’m struggling to see much, if any, in the way of early pace in the field, and so it shouldn’t be a problem getting track position. His C&D record of two wins and a second from just three runs makes him of interest in itself, but he also shaped very well on his seasonal reappearance at Lingfield two weeks ago, when beaten just a length and three-quarters in a similar event to this.
Epictetus finished in front of him last time, but not only was that rival race-fit, having had a couple of runs in March, but he’s not one to rely on when the chips are down, and I expect that form to be reversed here. Johnny Portman continues in good form, with two winners in the past fortnight, and there’s plenty to like about Newfangled’s chances tonight.
