2014 winner God’s Own and DIEGO DU CHARMIL are the pair to focus on in Tuesday’s Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter, with preference for the latter.
The winner of the Grade 1 Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree back in April, he ticks plenty of boxes in terms of trends and he also boasts a similar profile to Paul Nicholls’ three recent winners of the race (trainer has won the race six times in all), being a French-bred six-year-old on his first start out of his novice campaign.
He has just under nine lengths to make up with God’s Own (and stable-mate San Benedeto) from their meeting in the Celebration Chase six months ago and is actually 1lb worse off at the weights, but that came at the end of the season and he travelled really well for a long way.
This is sure to have been his target since coming back in and the lack of any course form is the only trend he fails to pass.
God’s Own, who is just 2lb higher than when winning the race four years ago, can chase him home.
Bettrends verdict:
1. DIEGO DU CHARMIL
2. GOD'S OWN
