ITV to broadcast all 31 matches from Euro 1996 with Euro 2020 postponed to 2021

ITV will show all 31 games from Euro 96 will be available to watch from May.

The move comes after UEFA pushed Euro 2020 back by 12 months due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

With no major international tournament in the summer, the broadcaster revealed that every game from the 1996 edition will be available to watch on the ITV Hub.

The competition, which was held in England, was the last time that the Three Lions reached the semi-finals stage of a European Championship.

The channel also stated that ITV4 will play out the five games featuring England, as well as the final between Germany and the Czech Republic.

Stuart Pearce celebrates scoring a penalty against Spain

England progressed through as winners of Group A with victories over Scotland and the Netherlands, alongside a draw in their opening match against Switzerland.

They would then beat Spain on penalties in the quarter-final but their journey came to an end in the next round with defeat to Germany on spot kicks.

On the decision, Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels & Acquisitions at ITV, said: "Nothing brings the country together like Euro fever, and with this year’s tournament postponed to 2021, we’re giving our audience a chance to relive one of the all-time great sporting events, Euro 96.

"Thanks to the ITV Hub and ITV4, there’ll be no shortage of vintage football classics for fans to indulge in over the next few months."

Germany won Euro 1996

In an exclusive interview with Sporting Life, Stefan Kuntz, who scored against England in the semi-final for Germany, confessed that he has fond memories of the tournament but not just because of the outcome.

"It was my biggest dream when I was a young boy, to play once at Wembley Stadium," he said.

"This was for us, in Germany, the biggest point you can reach. That I could do it in the old Wembley, it fulfilled a lifelong dream.

"I think that the supporters in England are marvellous. They are unbelievable.

"I will never forget that when we left the pitch after the semi-final, the England team was already in the locker room, they gave a standing ovation.

"This fairness inside the English football supporters is amazing. I love it, I love the tradition in English football and of course I come back to England with a lot of happiness in my heart all the time."
